On the AI for fixing up non-native text, I would 100% prefer that people write in their native language or broken English and leave the translation to me. Even the slightest wiff of LLMisms are enough to completely turn me off. Just dont do it.

    Unreadable AI slop.

Did the author actually test 5v into the microcontroller? The signal values might be intended to be 3.3v, but I have a bunch of esp32 boards reading 5v signals on their pins, and they have been doing that for years now. At the time I did some research and found posts from the espressif designer that claimed that the pins were okay with 5v.

The tech won't go away though, the models will just be hosted on local GPUs. The audio and video generation might get more expensive or out of reach for most of us, but the image and text generation will be available to anyone with a basic GPU.

And sadly, cybercrime, propaganda etc are all backed by very deep pockets, so they may be able to afford to pay the real prices.

I dont think the genie is going back in the bottle sadly.

S2Idle is slightly different to suspend to ram, as it keeps peripherals and other hardware awake, but even so, I have seen reports of 1% battery drain per hour, which is pretty good imo. What hardware do you have and what is your battery drain?

Fair, seems the advice has changed. I still prefer to not sell disks, especially with all the firmware trickery that disks do. Like are bad sectors zerod? Or does the firmware skip them, potentially leaving data on the disk?

I don't have to worry if I just keep the disk or destroy it, so its peace of mind.

Hiberation just isnt that valuable when modern sleep sips power.

If you need to have zero power usage, save files, shutdown and reboot later, it'll be faster. If you need a quick off and on, with state, just sleep, it'll last all week comfortably.

Take the disk out and junk it. Smash the platters with a hammer.

If you really want to save the disk and pass it on, you can buy IDE to USB adapters. Take the disk out, use the adapter and plug it in to a Linux PC, format to your hearts content.

Bear in mind that formatting, zeroing or randomising the disk dara may not completely wipe the data, and forensic tools may be able to recover it. So if its sensitive, go with the hammer option (and consider further destruction if very sensitive).

    4 Raspberry Pi's

Get a load of this cat flexing their wealth :D

The isolation of services makes some sense, but I found that there was plenty of single points of failure anyway (power, internet, router, pihole), so not worth worrying about a few more. And the reliability of the nuc has mostly given me peace of mind. I do have a separate nuc for a NAS, though.

Hi All, I just got a P100, and although it appears to work, i cant quite get gemma4 to run on it properly.

    My setup is:

    • Ubuntu 22.04 VM
    • PCI passthrough the GPU (Connected via thunderbolt) (I know this is unideal, and I might try cut this out later)
    • Nvidia 580 driver installed.
    • llama.cpp built from source, with cuda enabled.

I got some mostly normal output from qwen, but whenever I try to load gemma4 I get a lot of <unused49><unused49><unused49><unused49>. I did have it briefly working, no idea what changed, but reboot and its back to unused spam.

Anyone hit this before? Ideas on what I should try change?

Hi All, I have a Sony A9, which I have been using for Aurora photography. The last time I went out, I shot at 6400iso, 2s exposures, and nearly all of the photos I got have a ton of "stuck" pixels. See the video, skip halfway in, and look at the rocks in the bottom right.

I have had a play with the the camera with the lens cap on, and at low isos, there are no stuck pixels, it's only once I go past 640 (the second iso range) that the issue appears. Has anyone seen this kind of thing before? Is it repairable? I'm guessing most of you shoot at iso100, but for aurora it was nice to get the shorter shutter speeds.

Hi all, I have a Netgear D7800 that I have run openwrt on for a long time. Does anyone else have one (or similar) and how do I get sysupgrades working? They error out when I upload a sysupgrade image, with an error about unsupported partition layout.

But as far as I can tell, I have a v2.0 layout, as I flashed a factory openwrt image manually. Is sysupgrade just not supported at all anymore (and if so, why do the images still exist?), or do I need to do something to reenable it?
