he drugged her just so he could finish her sandwich ? he could have bought his own, or asked her for a bite. Very upsetting comic

It's art. It's meant to provoke. Now put yourself in a vegan's shoes for a moment and look again at this comic, and you see the grotesquerie of animal based agriculture laid bare.

It's social comentary. Really really good social comentary. Edit - not vegan myself, but I get it.

Vegan here: I am still grossed out about how Dave exemplified drugging, abduction, compliance, murder, and cannibalism.
There so many more ways to do all the above without eviscerating your readers.

You're supposed to be. I'm sorry you feel art is only supposed to make you feel good.

Wait, Dave intended to eviscerate his audienceβ€½Don't patronize me. I am extremely aware art is supposed to evoke emotions.

I am telling YOU can do that in MANY MORE WAYS than to have your audience against you, and your thesis.

Congratulations on having an opinion of your own. 5 or 6 billion people, probably, not including me, are very happy for you.

Honestly, do yourself the favor of blocking my entire domain. Our instance doesn't need your insignificant opinions either.

Ah. The echo chamber crew has spoken. Never shall you be offended by opinions that aren't your own. Blessed be your journey. Turn off the internet and all your dreams will come true.

Next time you do have a significant opinion on something, just keep in mind this conversation going forward. I do not need your humility on my dao.

Artists don't give two shits about my humility or your dao.

The world must be a scary place without others to think for you.

The extreme negative reaction is part of it. Art plays all emotions, including inciting an audience against you. Sometimes artists don't do it for us, they do it to see what happens.

So, your art is to patronize others…?

Congratulations! Go tell all the artists how you feel about this. I am certain they care very deeply about your needs and will be totally subservient to your requirements. Artists are really cool about that sort of thing. They aren't fond of rocking the boat.

Reminds me of Pig by Roald Dahl.

People expect some funny, maybe payback, at least for someone to do something. Nope. Just weird and sad.

Are you trying positive reinforcement with my Internet etiquette? It doesn't work great when you do it with affective contempt.

I thought you were being ironic when you said you know art can evoke emotions but you were mad about the specific emotions this art evokes.

I am trying to comprehend your intent.
If we are both art enjoyers, that comprehend art can evoke emotions with comprehension of your audience in mind, why can you evoke disenfranchisement while I can't?

I try to keep good company without trying to offend my income, so no, I am not going to attempt to disenfranchise my commissioners.

    But you do you!✌️

I will. My dick-breathing dragon prints are a top seller with judge-judy tarot coming in a close second. People like being mildly offended, just look at these comments.

Good luck, truly. The world needs artists. I only downvoted you after you called our friend there an asshole, which I didn't think was cool, otherwise I enjoyed our debate.

Edit: Pig was about raising people to be disempowered by shielding them from negativity, and how it does them a disservice. I struggle to find a strong allusion to class struggle, since the primary theme is the danger of being naive.

Did you not respond to me in a new thread to like... continue this debate? Almost like art can trigger strong emotions.

And here I was trying to be polite, following one of the rules of the comic strips community.

That would be neat to see how the comic strip community defines a debate.

If anyone sees this and feels like answering, how would you define a debate?

Anyway, anyone can call someone an asshole, for sure. I didn't call you call you an asshole, I said it wasn't a cool, because one of the community rules is to be polite.

If klingerd & DaveContra wanted to exemplify compliance of [witnessing and doing nothing] evil, even then the humor falls flat.

On a retrospective, thank you @klingerd@lemmy.ca, you managed to attract the assholes for our community to ignore. On behalf of normal folks, we thank you for your sacrifice.
