Countries with extensive cctv networks still have lots of crime, almost like surveillance is the wrong answer to lowering crime or something
post
Obvious spyware grift is obvious.
This just in, Ring's CEO admits to being a complete idiot. Look at the cameras in the UK. Mass surveillance does not stop crime.
Oh that's awesome I didn't realize cameras are able to create a system where the basic necessities of life aren't locked down by money, where people aren't being disenfranchised/marginalized/exploited and not having to fend out for themselves figuring out any way to survive but instead working together to answer everybody's needs
The only thing it will do is to further reduce our privacy and expose our data to big corpos
Lol. GTFO here ya clown. Anyone that lives in a big city knows that cameras don't stop crimes. Tweekers, dirty cops, politicians... none of em give a shit if they're on camera.
We are just so fucked from every angle, from this to Teams reporting everything you do to the man to everything else.
I'm just starting reading the book The Circle and I just got to the post where they announced the same thing.
A famous criminal lawyer in Australia told me that CCTV is a bluff. The perpetrator merely needs to deny it is them.
My friend employed an expert witness to perform computerized facial pattern recognition but the other party got their own "expert" to counter it.
this man's face looks like about to emit a nasal laughter while he plugs a ring camera into a UPS, singlehandedly putting humanity's most secured military zones to shame
If you're in the UK could you get prosecuted for saying something "grossly offensive" around one of those ring door bells?
Considering how few laws are enforced these days, having a ring video of a crime doesn’t really mean anything.
I’m more concerned about political uses of Ring footage than I am package theft.
Why couldn't they do it in the past 12 months, and why should people believe anything they promise?
That's literally the plot of Watch Dogs, no?
I hope we'll also get Dedsec with it. While the game had it's flaws, the Dedsec broadcasts are such a cool visual feat.
Man, I bet that, when this guy watched The Ring, the first thought that came into his mind was that the characters were being idiots by not making as many copies of the tape as possible and then selling them!
And the beauty of it is, that all that AI makes it possible to select specific instances and people we’re gonna call ‘criminal’, and others that we’re just gonna automatically ignore.
Financial crime does more damage to the country and might even be a driver for physical crime? Nah, let's surveil those people hit hardest by the financial crimes of others.
Since this is apparently being forced upon us whether we like it or not, I feel like any crime investigation utilizing any AI whatsoever needs to provide a full and detailed timestamped log of every single query used with said AI to the courts for review, and said log should be publicly available in a conspicuous location (i.e. not buried in page 487 of some random unrelated bit of said hypothetical investigation, nor requiring an account or any identifiable information to access).
It's a pipe dream, I know, but a man can hope.
well so long as you are not in jail it can not zero out crimes against humanity
... So his plan is to put them all over corporate boardrooms and (what's left of) the White House?
