But it's not like that because they have no idea what Trek is about other than it's in space and "pew pew pew".

The only thing I knew about startrek before I found lemmy was that in My Favorite Martian, somebody sees the zoot suit and says "I didn't know you were a trekkie."

Which is to say, not much.

Oh yeah and the Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons speaks Klingon. Other than that, nuthin

This is roughly the same logic behind my disappointment when Trek tries to be all dark and edgy.

It's something of a mistake to think of the show as being about science and exploration. It features those things, yes, but ultimately it's a show about Morals and Ethics.

Also star trek: look at these aliens, they're all sexy. And those ones are super horny and misogynistic.

They're not horrible caricatures though! Ignore the big ears, big noses and love of money! They keep their females naked, that's not Jewish at all!

Honestly, although I do love how the Ferengi are explored in DS9, whoever came up with the basic design needs therapy.

I know that the producer is Jewish, the writers are Jewish, I am Jewish, and most of the other (actors who played) Ferengi are Jewish, so keep that in mind,” Shimerman said. “When I traveled to Australia, they said to me, ‘C’mon the Ferengi are the Chinese, right?’ When I travel to England, ‘C’mon, the Ferengi are the Irish, right? When I travel to different parts of the world, it is the outsider in their community that is the Ferengi. It happens that here in America, perhaps we think it is the Jews. But in other parts of the world, they don’t think of that at all—they just think of another stereotype.

We don't really see it on-screen for obvious reasons, but the Ferengi do traditionally ban women from wearing clothes.

  • They were asking about Jews, not the Ferengi. The comment they replied to was trying to draw parallels between the two (big noses, big ears, love of money) and added the naked women as if it was another well-known Jewish stereotype.
