Brand, 51, faced seven charges in total, including three counts of rape. The judge tells him: "Obviously a custodial sentence of some length will result."

Another classic example of someone suddenly and mysteriously becoming a "right-wing influencer" in an attempt to make allegations go away.

A lot of these women came forward after the channel four investigation so hopefully now even more will have the courage to do so.

I saw a lot of articles about this as the trial was ongoing - more than for most ongoing trials. I don't know if the reporting rules were different or what, but I really didn't want to read about it until the trial was over. I don't really know why, but I think partly I knew I didn't want to read about a rape trial every single day and so I would only get a partial view of things at that level of detail. I'd rather have the court do the summarising for me by handing down a verdict and then read at the conclusion.

Now that's happened, I'm glad justice has been served. It's always mixed feelings with these trials: it turns out another public figure was a scumbag, but at least another scumbag is going to be punished. Hopefully the publicity leads to a sense that these crimes are unacceptable and will be punished.

It's easy to imagine the prosecution closing the case by just calling Russel Brand to the stand and letting him just not be smart enough to shut up for a few minutes.

Brand has given off "too stupid to realize consequences can be real" for a good while, now.

I hope he gets a prison sentence and damages that gives his victims some peace.

Silly question, but what's the difference between sexual assault and rape?

    sexual assault

Rape is a subcategory of sexual assault. Groping or forced kissing are not rape, but are also forms of sexual assault.

Pretty sure rape needs to be sticking the dick in a hole. Technically, in the UK, to the letter of the law, a female can't be a rapist.

Sexual assault can just be something as "insignificant" as pinching someone's arse as they pass you on the bus.

Rape involves penetration of bodily orfices with pretty much anything. Also; involuntary with consideration about ability to consent.

(Not sure if the UK narrows that definition in any way.)
