No its fucking not. Because you then realize the difference between a billion dollars and a million dollars is about a billion fucking dollars. Elmo didnt notice that money just like when people misplace coins. The rich are far too powerful and far too wealthy. This fight is far from over.

Just for some numbers, I checked his current net worth and rounding this to $1 trillion and what he spent to $500 million that’s ~.05% of his net worth to break a record amount. My net worth I think is lower than my gross income of ~$70,000, but applying that percent to my income that’s like $35.

It's a trite point but do you think EM has all that money in cash? The real cost won't be the campaign ads, it's in all the effort to move his companies to a state that just went blue and the stock market realizing that he doesn't have a backdoor "in" to things. Tesla and SpaceX are both down by tens of billions. That's what hurts him

Ah yes, how could I forget, the human centipede we are all connected to. Yeah I didnt consider that actually. I immediately was just like "thats not a lot of money to him". But the stock market. the stock market. How can we crash it harder?

I like to explain the difference like this:

If you earned one million dollars a year (after tax, all expenses, etc) and spent none of it how long would it take you to earn a billion dollars? A thousand years.

If Musk gave away a million dollars a day, how long would it take him to give away a trillion dollars? Three thousand years.

Then point out that's assuming they don't make any more money during that time.

This fight has just started. But maybe, just maybe, today was some kind of turning point.

Nope, just more uphill battles. Accountability for everyone who just fucked us, oligarchs included, and then end Citizens United. Then, we can talk about healthcare without money. The pressure from the people cannot stop.

He found that in his couch cushions.

There's always more taxpayer $$$ for Elmo.

He borrows money against his shares in his companies. It’s really cool to think about all his levered loans having higher interest payments (balloon payments) when his companies stock prices go down (and down and down and down etc.).

Pretty cool that AIPAC money is becoming toxic

It’s baffling how becoming a billionaire changes someone. They don’t see the world like normal people do.

Imagine him spending the same money starting schools around the country. “Elon Musk school for the gifted” or something, get the best math / programming / etc students there to receive first rate education and then pick the best ones to work for your companies.

With that money he could fund a bunch of schools perpetually. And he’d be remembered for a long time as a philanthropist.

But nope, he’ll rather buy a DOGE leader position and then try to buy elections. And beg to get on Epstein Island

It's hording, nobody becomes a billionaire by being nice or generous, You have to take from others.

If you use your money to help others you wouldn't be a billionaire for long but the world around you would be a little bit better of a place in my opinion.

Unfortunately, it's pocket change for him.

All I see is money that could have been collected as taxes and put to good use for public services, that got wasted on stupid political ads.

It won’t matter to him. The amount of money he spent could do appreciable good for regular people. For him it’s an “oh well”.

You are deriving joy from his imagined anguish. He doesn’t give a fuck.

He'll give a fuck when DOGE and SpaceX and Starlink are investigated.

I don't think they're going to find as much as you think around SpaceX. There are some questionable things he's done with Starlink, but as long as he didn't alter Starshield in Ukraine, SpaceX can mostly do whatever SpaceX wants with Starlink. With regards to Starshield, right now Trump and Musk are pointing the finger at each other but we haven't gotten a real answer. It would be profoundly dumb of Musk though if he altered Starshield without being told to do it.

SpaceX is also able to offer incredibly competitive bids for contract work, that them winning a lot of things isn't really surprising, and would be pretty defendable.

DOGE on the other hand he'll be fucked.

Fuck his feelings. It feels good to me too think about him wasting his money. Half a billion isn't "oh well" money to anyone, no matter how rich.

people really don't get extreme wealth. this is like 45 bucks being spent by the median american.

Median Americans don't tweet obsessively about their Outback Steakhouse dinner for 18 months, either. The money is probably the least painful thing here, but you've got to concede that Musk wanted something to happen, did everything he could to get it, and still lost it. That hurts in a way completely separate from wealth.

He gifted it to media companies. They know who butters their bread, and that's not a good thing. Even if it means he doesn't have the money anymore. Its also a waste because it forces Democrats to spend more than they would, even if it's now know to not be the driving factor. He's just so fuckign rich he can do the same thing every year for the rest of our lives and wouldn't care.

Yea we all just saw how money couldn't buy a win in this US midterm election, make your voice heard, because they'll try again.

  • source
  • [–] 3 points 2 days ago

It is cool to see that that much money can't buy the election for shitty people like them.

Sucks to think about how he can piss away that much money that didn't help anyone.

  • source
  • [–] 3 points 2 days ago

No, it's not. It's infuriating to think about all the good things that could be done with $474 million, but fucking Elon just pissed it away because he can't read a room. He spends $474 million the way we spend $4 on a morning coffee. And where is that money now? In the hands of consultants and PACs that will gladly do it again.

I'm just giddy that he lost Texas. Now he won't be able to take that public beach for space X, he won't be able to pollute at will. Thorns in his side are worth celebrating.

  • Going out to dinner one time would cost you more money than this entire election cost Elon, comparatively. He's not even remotely upset about the money. The amount of wealth we've allowed individuals to amass is both grotesque and fundamentally dangerous to society.
