I was pleasantly surprised that Missouri voted to strike down the ban on abortion AND conversion therapy. I don't want to chug hopium quite yet, but I do think this is somewhat different than the last "blue wave". The question is if enough of them will be able to resist the corporate money, because the progressive sentiment IS THERE at the voter level.

The only reason they voted against harming trans people was because abortion was tied into the proposal.

I'm not gonna refute that, but I'm also not gonna deny that having this weight lifted off our trans brothers and sisters shoulders means we can deal with the torrent of other shit coming our way together. Republicans tie rancid proposals and laws together like this all the time, progressives should also play this game. If the libs don't want to progress, we force them to.

But... People still voted against harming trans people? And plenty of pro trans representatives were elected?

Like yeah some transphobes did too but like what more do you want

Trans rights were not at the forefront of why people voted against the Republicans, I doubt it was even a tertiary concern. Aside from Abdul El-Sayed and Peggy Flanagan , I can't think of any notable pro-trans (not including of a handful of trans people themselves in minor positions) reps who were elected?

And look at the exit poll results, 53% still want to take our rights away, combined with 22% who think all the loses trans people have suffered so far are about the right amount.

What I wanted was a firm rejection of transphobia, what was given was a soft acceptance.

Multiple state propositions passed or are likely to pass with wide margins banning trans girls from sports, from bathrooms, enshrining sex at birth, etc. And all the transphobic Democrats who called us slurs, want trans girls out of sports, or said they worked with Republicans to vote laws against us won.

A handful of trans people got elected for some “minor” seats, but it’s not enough to offset the loses.

They need progressive voters telling them that we expect results, we expect them to act like Mamdani. They need letters, protests, rallies, demonstrations. And we need mutual aid, we need to do things for ourselves.

Progressives ARE doing all these things, and it's working! Look at how much money AIPAC, Musk, et al. spent on Texas, or the anti-billionaire tax laws in California, and they're still going through. We need to STAY ON IT though.

What we need are people to stay on the Dems asses when gas prices do go down and their creature comforts come back. And honestly, we need to stay hopeful and realistic. El-Sayed even right now is talking about how staying positive in the face of all the garbage he faced got him elected in his speech, same with Zohran Mamdani when he won, and when people are saying he isn't doing enough. Leftist politics can get really doom and gloom online, but we ARE making progress.

The other 4 anti-trans ballot measures in Arizona, Colorado, and Washington all passed though :/. The Arizona one also includes a bathroom ban for all schools including colleges and private schools. As nice as the wave of progressives and pro-trans candidates winning is nice I feel like its soured by those measures and people like turek also winning his election.

Yeah I'm reading about these right now, it's so fucking disappointing. But Obama won in 2008 and California passed Prop 8 (gay marriage ban) on the same ballot, and it was ultimately struck down. A lot of these measures are easier to challenge and strike down under Democratic admin than Republican, especially at the state level. Colorado already has rumblings about challenging this in court if it's enacted into law, I'm not sure about Arizona and Washington.

I know it's very gloomy for a lot of trans people at the moment because it seems like these are getting swept under the rug, but I organize with my community and I promise there are a lot of people who have eyes on this and know that the fight is not done just because of the blue bukkake, it's only the beginning.

First there's a couple weeks of ratfuckery, then they will start reaching across the isle. That's then we can go back to call them spineless

We don't elect our leaders, we elect our opposition.

I don't know if you're going to have to do that much yelling. I was listening to the woman from Africa (I think Ethiopia), and she was right there with you. She made Gen Z look amazing. She's ready and young enough to fight hard. Plus, she's a lawyer. Basically, even though there are some light red dems that won, there were a lot of progressives as well.

The democrat party is shaken by change right now. Progressives are taking more and more space. The neoliberal scum is being challenged. Abdul is extatic. I humbly submit that your hatred is justified yet too generalized. Something exciting is going on.

GUYS THE DEMS WON THE HOUSE AND THE SENATE! WE DID IT! WE WON!

Anyway, fuck the Democrats. Party of controlled opposition. Probably gonna pass more right wing laws for Trump to sign in the next few years, and they won't even bother to put left wing laws in front of him. Assholes. We need to do a revolution ourselves, we can't rely on these corrupt politicians to save us.

If your values are so easily discarded to support evil, they're not real. In 1 years time you'll be back to telling people to stop talking about the bad things because the elections aren't far off.

And if you can never temporarily compromise to make progress, you will never win. Coalition building is the name of the game, and this time around we have a slightly better coalition. More socialists and adjacent have just been elected then there have been in decades. It's not enough, and we need to push them to follow through on their promises and keep the momentum going but it's something.

Constant despair that it's not perfect will never get you anywhere
