Some background on this comic:

Transcript:

Every time that I've seen a stuffed bear, it's posed in the standard, threatening-like stance. I guess every bear hunter would like to give the impression that this is exactly how the animal was snuffed―seconds before he (the hunter) was to be pulled into that terrible maw.

I think the truth is much more akin to what I've drawn here.

Thankfully the "sport" seems mosty limited to African safaris where they are purposefully culling a given population. That's why I reserve my ire until I've read the story. In many cases the conservation folks get paid and someone had to cull that animal anyway.

Now I am all in on feral pig trophy hunting. They're so bad that Florida has zero bag limits, no season defined and all methods allowed. Weapons free!

So your proposal is that chimps and lions are going to stop eating meat when they enter their stone age? In spite of the wealth of evidence to the contrary?

I'm okay with expecting better of people, but there is very little that humans do that other species don't. Eating other animals is just one of them.

No that's not what I proposed at all. Nice straw man though.

In spite of the wealth of evidence to the contrary?

    Source you fucking dweeb XD

I expect better of sentience too. After all it created veganism in the first place.

All this to say, very few animals practice agriculture and none have left the stone age.

Well, let's back up. You said that meat eaters were the scum of the earth and that humans don't show up in nature documentaries. Not all meat eaters are human, but you aren't modifying your statement, so I'm left to conclude that lions and chimps are also scums of the earth, or that only non-sapients don't get a pass, since sentience is a bar that scientists believe many non-human animals rise above. Source. If there is a straw man here, it is created with your very own words. I suppose I would have to include the stone age, too, but at that point we have both redefined terms and moving goalposts.

You could have modified your witty edit of the parent post to be "meat eating people are the scum of the earth" at any time, but you insisted on defending your superiority, right down to the name calling.

I wonder how many hunting enthusiasts read this comic in the paper and didn't understand the joke (or didn't realize that this is making fun of them).

Somehow the gap between picture two and three make this comic incredibly brutal to me. Especially the expression in picture two.

No, sir, or madam. I replied to you and you told me to use a better instance, that was when I sensed you might be upset about what I said.

I now kind of get the hint of you telling me to "removed" off and never talk to you again. I will do that, and wish you a nice day.

Your instance changed the "b" word to "removed". Everyone else sees the b word. Your comment made it obvious that you didn't know that your instance was censoring what you see and they made a cheeky joke about it. Then you were an removed to them.

You either continue in ignorance or you're trolling. Your shitty Lemmy insurance censored the original text "b*tch ass move" into "Removed ass move" and then you, not understanding what happened, responded to the censored version that only you and other people on shitty censored instances can see. I had to also censor my post just to inform you that information you clearly need in order to understand posts here is being withheld from you by the shitty Lemmy instance which you should leave.

    I'm visiting from lemmy.ml.

Today is the fisrt time ever I know that the censorship comes from the instance I visit posts from. Before that I thought some instances which host the post automatically replace curse words with "removed".

Like I said, I stopped replying to the original commentor, but I am not comfortable about being seen as ignorant or trolling. I was neither.

Back when I was on Reddit, I would always get downvoted for saying that hunting wild animals with a gun is fucked up. To this day, I don't fucking get it. Why? I think those who like it are fucked up, and if that is the case, maybe it's good to have an outlet for these people so that they don't shoot other people.

Doing so just for sport? Absolutely.

If it's for food, I kinda give it a pass. Killing for no good reason is a waste of a life.

I can give it a pass for population control in the absence of natural predators, if done correctly

As long as there's a valid reason (no, "for fun" isn't a valid reason), hunting with a gun is acceptable.

My dad used to take me to shoot wild ducks near my hometown. It was a sort of artificial "wilderness" - used to be open fields and sandy dunes that got transformed into a forest (partly for wood, partly to bind the soil so a canal could be cut to provide water). With that forest and canal came a bunch of animals finding new home. Except... any predator was basically already driven out of the area centuries before. Leading to the mostly waterfowl population getting out of control.

So we'd go a few times a year and shoot a bunch of ducks and geese. On average we'd take home 15-20 birds. My mum "loved" it, because she got to de-feather them by hand, butcher and process (though I did help with that), and about half the meat would be handed out to neighbours and friends. On the bright side of things we'd eat like kings for a week or two. Wild duck liver, roasted with some bacon, and of course duck breast rosè 🤤

Nothing would go to waste, the wandering Romani pillowmakers would buy the feathers, all the innards would be either used in a meal or made into sausages (yes, including the feet and head), the roast bones would be good for a stock base, and our neighbour was always happy to take any leftover bones to grind up and give it to his dog or use it in his garden.

For a long time I thought it was a fun activity for us to do together, and only recently asked why he never took my younger brothers... turns out he got his licence for population control, had to report any bird he took out, and thanks to climate change, the canal became useless around the time my older younger brother was the age my dad would've taken him for such a trip, and because of no canal = no birds = no need to control the population.

I think eating hunted meat is more ethical than farmed meat, since the animal at least lived a natural life until it was killed.

I do not like to kill things. And I do not like being around things being killed. But I do like haveing large wilderness areas to hike and access to lakes for boating. And whenever I look into which groups I should support to keep those areas open it seems like the hunting and fishing groups are the ones making it happen. So I dunno. Politics make strange bed fellows I guess.
