I do not like to kill things. And I do not like being around things being killed. But I do like haveing large wilderness areas to hike and access to lakes for boating. And whenever I look into which groups I should support to keep those areas open it seems like the hunting and fishing groups are the ones making it happen. So I dunno. Politics make strange bed fellows I guess.

Thanks! I think this is really great advice. My religious watching of Vice Grip Garage has helped me out a few times over the years. I have an old boat, and I do wrench on it now and then out of necessity, since it's so hard to find good marine mechanics. Maybe the next car purchase should be an old square body Chevy.

You might be surprised. I have a 2017 chevy and it definitely does report data back to GM. I have a close friend that works there and was able to confirm this. I thought there was no way since it was old, and it has no internet access of any kind that I can see. But it uses the cell network to report back data. I suspect it reports alot less interesting data than new cars. But for sure, it is sending data back to GM over the cell network.

Local inference has been great for me, and I don't even have a very powerful system. These are just the lies that he needs to tell to create a monopoly and force us all to pay his company.

There were a few small subreddits I hung on for. Just a few niche communities that flew below the radar and avoided some of the bots and other enshitification. But when they forced logon for old reddit. I was done. I've been so happy here on Lemmy. I reminds me of how fun reddit used to be.

Serious question, what new car can I buy that won't spy on me and send all my data to the manufacturer? I'll be in the market for a new car in a couple of years, and I've had a hard time finding anything where this wasn't an issue.

My parents, and their friends. I still remember being mortified the first time I went to a movie with my new friends in collage. I got up to leave and left all my junk in the seat as usual. They were like "hey dude, what are you doing? Pick up your shit." I looked around and noticed I was the only one not taking my trash. I felt like such a loser. I picked it up immediately. But I still cringe thinking about how many people were probably judging my whole family as we walked a way from our mess at the end of each movie when I was little. A few people have tried to tell me that was just how it was done back then, and there were not garbage cans available on the way out. But I think that is probably not true.

The cigarette butt thing is even weirder to me. I don't smoke, but my mom still does. She is a super pro nature, pro environment person, but she throws cigarette butts everywhere she goes. She insists its not litter, though she would never litter anything else.
