Sometimes, in sitcoms, a friend or relative who doesn't live in the home just enters and announces themselves after opening the presumably unlocked door.

[Shudders]

My friends do this. It's nice because I can have friends over while also never answering when someone knocks or rings the doorbell.

This is how my grandparents house was growing up. They were my neighbors so it was like having 2 houses.

Anyway family would just pop in whenever. The older I get the more I reflect on how nice it was. The closeness and connection as opposed to this isolation.

We were meant to have these large extended families that we lived together with. Multi-generational households or even compounds were the norm for practically all of human history.

Sometimes I think about what we've lost. I guess I don't have to wear pants

I like the idea of a compound or a village for a multi-generational family home. Seems like a nice blend of closeness and respecting boundaries. I'm not saying that wasn't the case in your situation. I'm sure you had a method of respecting their privacy, too.

It really was an open door policy. Only time I had to knock was at night after 8 or so because they would lock up. I guess other family would call at nighttime, but daytime was open

    Simple times

My guess is it’s just to save time so they don’t have to waste time going to the door and opening it for everyone who arrives.

One of my other concerns is that an unescorted visitor might get eaten by a corgi.

  • TIM: That's the most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered canine you ever set eyes on!

ROBIN: You tit! I soiled my armor I was so scared!

TIM: Look, that Corgi's got a vicious streak a mile wide! It's a killer!

    GALAHAD: Get stuffed!

TIM: He'll do you up a treat, mate.

    GALAHAD: Oh, yeah?

    ROBIN: You mangy Scots git!

    TIM: I'm warning you!

ROBIN: What's he do, nibble your bum?

TIM: He's got huge, sharp-- eh-- he can leap about-- look at the bones!

Yeah, the right approach is to have a basket of candy outside the door and the door locked

I mean, I'm Danish. I just witnessed kids running around in disposable costumes begging for candy and I was like: "Due to Trump's policies I can't afford food, let alone candy, but I've got some left-over Thai red curry you little America-loving swine can have for free. It's really hot tough, so I don't know if you can handle the ginger and chili. If you would kindly take your American holiday and fuck off, I can get back to opposing Russia's genocide of Ukraine while you're having fun. Unlike the the 40 thousand Ukrainian kids kidnapped by Russia currently being molested inside Russia."

You may not agree with how we raise our kids around these parts, but it sure does work better than what you've got going on, you fucking worthless American pussies. I guess all those guns are just for show and the 2nd amendment meant nothing, really.

This is unnecessarily rude and derogatory towards many, many people, and not a tone we condone on Feddit.dk (see our site-wide rule 1). What do you mean the 2nd amendment means nothing, without it it would be much more difficult for those in power to control people. Also the idiots that want guns the most are the same people that support the regime making it even more pointless.

During the time my entire neighbourhood was trick-or-treating last night, an Amazon driver had the bright idea to deliver packages. I hope the candies were worth driving around at 2 km/h and dodging small kids.
