Why do you do it? All the critters would thank you if you didn't.

Dried leaves composted for a year make an excellent homemade potting soil.

Well then they belong on the goddamn lawn, where they would nicely decay over the winter.

Sure, if you want to get rid of the lawn and plant a garden. Otherwise, leaving the lawn buried under a foot of leaves tends to kill the grass.

Didn't know grass can't grow in a forest. Oh wait, it does actually grow like crazy with all the fertilizer from dead tree matter.

Idk what kind of weak-ass grass you got, grow normal grass instead. And stop mowing it obsessively like a psycho.

  • Actually I’ve been replacing most of my grass with wildflower meadows and gardens. I don’t care for grass at all.

I don’t get enough leaves to bother composting them, but if I did I would use them to make potting soil, not leave them on the ground.

RIP fireflies, butterflies, and other insects.

My neighbors always comment enviously about the amount of fireflies in my yard every year, and I always tell them it's because I don't rake my leaves the year before, but every year at this time my yard is the only one in the neighborhood with leaves on it.

People just can't understand that their behavior affects the environment. Or maybe they understand that if they admit that this behavior does, they'd be forced to reassess how other behavior might be causing environmental changes, which would unravel the backwards world view they're trying so hard to cling to.

Have you considered putting a sign up in your yard to explain why you don't rake them up?

I've seen this done with native gardens and the response is usually positive.

I plan on replacing most of my yard with native plants and getting a sign explaining the benefits, but for now I just deal with being the "bad" neighbor. I didn't really care that much about what they think of me.

Let the fireflies have homes damnit

Just don't, there is no good reason to do it.

I think the leaves covering the lawn is a truly beautiful sight, especially right now when they're all orange and red. My yard looks like an autumn wonderland where a talking cat might pop out and take you somewhere fun and my neighbors looks like you'll have to file taxes just or looking at it.

Plus its good for bugs which is good for us

Leave them be, it's good for the ecosystem.

There is a spot on my lawn where the wind does a good job blowing the leaves down the street. Raking and bagging are two different activities.

Eh, I got an electric leaf blower for $80 on sale for Father's Day this year, just so that I could blow the leaves out from under my bushes and away from my foundation since I had ants in my house. It's pretty quiet - far quieter than the gas lawn mowers my neighbors have running at all times of day - and gets leaves out of hard-to-reach places way better than a rake. Now the insects and I can coexist peacefully, and I get the benefits of fireflies in the summer without the drawback of ants in my house.

Okay, cool, thanks. I was just giving a recommendation that has been useful for me since I have a bad back. Asshole.

Fuck every 100+ decibal leaf blower. I can still hear the fucking things when I'm in my apartment with headphones on, and all the windows shut. They've literally given me panic attacks. And these people run them for HOURS.

Buy electric or let the stupid leaves sit on the ground, where they will decompose.
