Sometimes a camera just needs a sock.

The Flock Sock is a slip on cover designed to help protect a Flock camera from the harmful radiation of the sun. Your city spent their very own hard earned tax dollars scattering these cameras everywhere to keep you safe, all it cost you was a little privacy. The very least you can do is help protect these valuable civil servants from getting a bad sunburn.

I might just have to break out my 3D printer again. I need to get a very long broom, though. I've seen one in my area up near the top of a street light. Shame it won't block the wireless features, like Bluetooth scanning.

There is a deflock thread but I couldn't find it. Gave it a cross post in privacy@lemmy.ml

I had the idea the we need to employ the people who have come up with really convincing credit card skimmers to make flock and axon camera covers

TIL that Lemmy titles let me use Markdown formatting. Forgot I was typing in the title, till I saw the italics on my post show up.

You could also add some sort of adhesive to make it so the protective cover wouldn't blow off from the wind. I mean, like, it would really be on there. Almost permanent, even.

Just use a black plastic bag. If the sun cooks it, it will melt into the lens and ruin it anyway.

Maybe a kind of spray-on adhesive, and what if the spray-on adhesive was opaque, then you get double protection!

Actually, then you would ONLY need the spray-on adhesive, just spray a healthy amount on the lens (the most light sensitive part) and you'd be done

Now if only there existed a product like that that is available in pretty much every hardware store and hobbyshop...

They also need a solar panel protector. They can’t be cheap to replace/clean should they encounter a hailstorm or loitering pigeons. Your tax money, your investment, your responsibility.

Just remember to use a transparent PC or PETG filament otherwise you run the risk of sub-optimal light transmission. Something cheap and opaque might render the panel, and therefore the camera, useless.

This is dumb. Sorry not sorry.

Just destroy the camera. You’re going to jail either way if caught. You haven’t found some secret trick to fool the courts.

You could argue it wasn't destruction of property and get the charges reduced.

You'll still get slapped with vandalism or something, but shouldn't be as bad as destroying the unit.

You want to fill those with some spray foam adhesive before you install them. Otherwise, they might blow off in a heavy wind.

(Also, this was already posted a couple of weeks ago.)

    Oh, smart idea!

Oops, I scrolled through recent posts to double check before posting, but I didn't search the whole community. Just now, I was going to find/link the one you're referencing but searching didn't give me results for 3d, makerworld, flock sock, or the direct link. So especially if there's good convo on that one, please link it if you can! And hopefully this one will help get more new eyes on it! :)

I actually thought it might be a nice slip on protection for the solar panel itself. Advantage is it doesn't block the camera view so everything looks normal, and it wouldn't be very obvious as it would just sit over the panel to keep the hot sun off it. In a day or so the camera would just lose power for some odd reason.
