That's what a gimbal does, or a laser level. I haven't seen laser levels that small however. Do you want it to stay fixed on the surface? Is it a static surface? Flat or not? Or do you just want smooth motion, because if so a small gimbal holding a laser is the easiest solution. Everything else gets difficult fast

Edit: I think you want to look at gimbals for drones if you want something small. Some of these will even have stand-alone object tracking. But then you need to arrange for something to connect it to, supply power, etc. All the good normal gimbals are for handheld phones or cameras and are not easily pocketable. The pocketable "normal" gimbals sacrifice something that makes them unusable here.

Project Farm on the Tubez did a GREAT video testing heaps of knockoff batteries and counterfeits versus the official batteries! Unbranded knockoffs were significantly better than branded fakes. I have an unbranded knockoff battery for a vacuum and it ROCKS.

A friend has his own electrical business, he buys unbranded batteries for all his DeWalt kit and claims never having an issue. He also says the higher capacity ones are really good.

That said there are dodgy ones out there. Buy from a reputable seller.

I've been using unbranded batteries for Ryobi for years. They have a LED gauge and they outlast the OEM batteries. I did a major construction job this spring summer and only the OEM batteries failed.

YouTube in invested is selling you OEM batteries but seriously, they are made in the same factory as the unbranded ones.

In Canada, a Ryobi battery @4Ah is $158 each. Generic 2 pack of 8Ah are $56. How can there be a 680% difference?

I have a bank of a dozen batteries and have never had an issue.

At this point, I only run off brand batteries in my Millies. No idea how long they last either because they get stolen before that point, but at least it isn't $220 to replace a pair. Also one of the biggest reasons I switched back to corded tools

I bought a pair of 6 ah off brand makita batteries about a year ago, mostly to use in the kids power wheels instead of my good ones. They're still kicking I'm pretty impressed. I might have gotten lucky though, part of the lower cost is less quality assurance I imagine, so more of a dice roll to get decent ones.

removing old reddit and hiding it behind a login , if you used within 6months is another nail in the coffin, they are eventually moving to a login only site, if you want to view any content, so no lurking.

I used Carat bit a while ago to drill holes to tiles in our kitchen. Works pretty well for that, but I wouldn't use those for metal. I guess you can make a hole on steel too with those, but it would likely destroy the bit pretty fast.

  • Aside from centralising all these communities that goes against the whole point of creating a federated eco system where all the main communities aren't controlled by the same people and if one server goes down it isn't all gone.

The admin team are Zionist pricks who have a history of making big decisions (such as blocking entire instances) with no transparency or community involvement. Defend admins when they make terrible decisions thus aligning themselves with those decisions as well as coordinated discrimination of users they don't like or who are hold an opinion they don't agree with, particularly in news comms.

Remember, that sub described the people, not the objects.

So many posts were just suburban douchenozzles bragging about buying new stuff but never actually using anything. Also, people buying old bench vices and then polishing or painting them to be so perfect, you could not actually use them. Its like they wanted to cosplay a laborer so they started decorating a set for a movie.

I really hope that shit just stays there where it belongs.

If y'all make this an active community, it looks like the existing moderator is inactive, so to folks here: You should consider volunteering to moderate if the need arises.

I'm gonna keep an eye out on this community to see if you all make it a thing, and if you do, I'll see if the current mod is active (but they haven't said anything in a few years - this is a common issue on lemmy and we're used to fixing it).

Just wanted to stop in and say hello - and hope to see another community take off again. I've seen several like this - someone makes a thread, people pop up and start contributing. It's a beautiful thing to watch. :) And I'm here to support y'all if it happens.

It became the largest instance, so there is some lemmy.world defaultism out there. Some people attribute spam that happens everywhere to the biggest instance. All problems must have a source.

Not that any instance is perfect, mind. But imho, there's nothing significant wrong with lemmy.world - or many other instances.
