Hello !tools community!

EDIT: As a note, your dear moderator did reply to my PM and would like to continue moderation, but would like to see 1-2 more volunteers as mods, so I'm using my automated tool to post this. Most of it is accurate, so I'm letting it post but adding this note: Looking for 1-2 folks to volunteer to assist in moderating this community. :)

The current moderation team for !tools has been inactive for a while, so the admin team has stepped in temporarily to help keep the queue clear and find new volunteer moderators from the community.

Interested in Moderating !tools?

If you enjoy this community and would like to help keep it welcoming, spam-free, and well-maintained:

  • Reply in the comments below or send a Direct Message to @ieh.
  • Let us know if you have any prior moderation experience (not required!) and what you'd like to see for the community.

(Note: If any of the previous moderators return in the future, they are always welcome to reach out to the admin team as well!)

Requirements and notes:

  • Reports do not get sent for moderators without a lemmy.world account, so if you have an account on a different instance, you'd need to create one here and check it daily for reports (takes a few seconds at most)
  • Most communities get reports infrequently, often once per week or less. Although sometimes more. Checking daily is important
  • Moderate fairly according to the community rules. Everyone has to make subjective calls, but try to be objective
  • Enforce the Lemmy.World ToS

If you have any questions, would like to volunteer, please reply below!

80€ for Makita and 40€ for no-name brand. They've been tested and the 5Ah rating is accurate. What's remains to be seen is how these last long term.

I was a active user on the r/tools subreddit. But today age certification was forced. Ik don't feel comfoygiving ID or photo to some company.

Are there more people joining from r/tools? Feel welcome and make this out new home. Lets make this active.

Is there a electric Torque Driver where you can set the pounds torque, and have it electrically torqued to the specified amount? It will be used for cast iron pipe couplers with metal screw-drive bands. For example, you can set it at 60 pounds, and the driver will torque the metal pipe band to 60 bands. Thank you for your interest.

Is there a drill bit made of the material of grinding wheel of orbital grinder, which breaks down slowly as it drills, or maybe it can be made of like diamond -studded metal file, so that the drill grinds as it drills, instead of cutting through the metal? Thank you for your interest.

Laser dots shake and tremble whenever anything is pointed, so is there a laser-pointer that has a built-in gimbal, so that slight shakes and trembling won't affect its position? Thank you for your interest.

Are there clips, similar to carabiners, that use the hand-cuff mechanism to secure things? Where you put the key rings inside the handcuff clip, and secure it by latching the zip-tie style lock. Thank you for your interest.

Bought some Mirka Abranet sanding discs too, and the dust extraction is so good now it produces virtually no dust at all. The light around the sanding head also highlights every imperfection on the wall amazingly well.

It's a bit on the heavy side - almost 7 kg - but I can deal with that. Luckily I only need it occasionally.

Robota S22 is the exact model, in case anyone's interested. Paid 170€ for it. There were cheaper and lighter ones, but those didn't have lights.

I'm looking for a heavy duty knockout punch. Something that can punch a hole in 1/4 inch 316 stainless steel. Does anyone know where I can start looking for one?

Cool new slip joint design from Tsunoda.

Jaws are a bit narrower vs the old design but, also feel much lighter.

New pliers have three slot design similar to Snap-On and Knipex models which allows then to grip larger bolts and etc.

New design has recessed pivot point making them even narrower.

New design only comes in bare metal handles. Personally I've always preferred the traditional plastic dipped handle, never tried bare metal.

The most interesting design and only original/new aspect though is the curved jaws. They're meant to grip in the middle of bolts so you didn't round the corners and help gripping angles in general. Never seen that before, will be interesting to see how it works out in real world use.

So big brains behind HF Series 3 made the boxes slightly (1/8") larger than Series 2 at least for the 26" boxes (now "27"). This means you can't drop a series 3 on top of a series 2 cart... The other way around works for the 2 people out there for whom that'd ever apply.

At any rate... Craftsman 2000 series 26" top boxes fit Series 2 carts with about an 1/8" to spare. They are 26 1/16" wide. Series 1000 should as well.
