if your argument is "shut up" you've already lost

I still use the SD card slot; a 2tb SD card holds a lot of data, and it is far easier to pop the card out and in when I want to transfer data than use ANY transmission method.
I still use the headphone jack; I have some nice planar headphones, and would like to keep using them.
I still want a removable battery. If the battery lasts longer, why can't it also be removable? Also, no battery is immune to degredation. It WILL degrade, and I don't want it taking my electronics with it.
"5 cameras you don't use"
Unless you take pictures
"took your microSD slot"
We now have GB phones. Shut up.
"took your headphone jack" sure, no one uses ear buds.
"they cut a hole in your screen"
Where would you like the selfie camera -one of the 5 cameras you don't use?
"they took your removable battery" and left behind a battery than can power for days and doesn't degrade.
Might as well complain about no curly phone cord and they took the rotary dial, the bastards.
I just got an Oppo Find X9 Pro and it has an IR blaster! I was surprised! I never even knew they were a thing.
But… I can already control my sound bar and Google TV streamer with my phone, so all it can really do is turn my TV off. 😃 I guess if I ever need to do something in the menus it might be useful.
Vibe slop trained on code created when memory was cheap, especially.
I had a Samsung S5 back in the day. That thing had a replaceable battery, an SD card slot, a 3.5mm socket, and one of those god awful wide-ass double USC mini sockets. It had no problem with water. I got that phone soaking wet many times. I showered with it. I literally washed that phone when its screen got filthy with my hair and face greases. It didn't bat an eyelid. What I'm saying is it's already possible to have fairly water resistant phones with a whole bunch of orifices. We don't need to ditch the USB port to get there. Doesn't make much sense to make general consumer phones more waterproof than that either.
Used the everliving shit out of that machine for many years. When it got a bit too slow, I flashed it with cyanogen, squeezed another year out of it. I don't think I ever got as much value from a phone since then. I doubt it's even possible now.
The entire Android ecosystem is Java/Kotlin. I can't believe pointing this out is still relevant in 2026, but those are inherently terrible for memory use. To some degree, the apps themselves can be optimized, but I don't think that's really going to do much in the grand scheme of things...
Except the removable battery and the hole punch camera I still have all those things.
It’s all vibe slop, it’s running the other way
And yet still relevant. They have ads built in now 😊
Will the ram shortage induce a return to resource efficiency concerns? I personally think not, but it nice to dream of the era when the efficiency of code was an important skill!
If they become waterproof I'm all for it
Reducing the ram to maintain price point
Wow that's an old post
Don't forget the SIM card slot.
In all seriousness, next is probably the charging/USB-C port. Wireless charging only.
probably will get rid of basic apps like the launcher and have you burn (paid) tokens to interact with your phone
Same for me, I'm on Thunder, but it also had a thumbnail.
Mlem app embeds loops.
I was able to watch the video from my feed.
🎉
Thanks for the feedback. I suppose that's the best that could be expected.
Just testing to see how Loop links work.
Embedded? Click and watch? Have to download the Loops app to watch?
This was not embedded or anything, but just tapping the link opened the web page in a browser and the video played back fine without excessive buffering or anything
