Android TV boxes are the way to go IMO. Lots of replacement launchers and ways to remove all the baked-in ads and the like, even if you can't root the device.

If you're stateside, Walmart's ONN brand devices are the absolute best bang for your buck you can find. They're not locked down, so you're able to get into the proper Android system menu and disable apps and so on (including telemetry). You can even activate ADB and tinker that way, though you don't need to if you just want to install a more simple (read: ad-free) home screen and turn off all the tracking garbage.

The fact that Mbin doesn't even get a mention in this question tells me a lot. T_T

Anyway, the overall activity level seems to have dropped off a bit since the initial burst during the Reddit API debacle. Activity seems to be clustered around a handful of large instances. Within that though it's solid and steady.

If the bubble pops hard enough, the prices of those servers will drop so low they'll become consumer electronics. Oh that RAM won't fit in my desktop? Screw it, I'll figure out how to put Linux on that rackmount.
(Wait, this this thing will only run FreeBSD? Eh close enough)

It's worth noting that Trump has claimed to have authority over a lot of things that were previously considered under the control of the Senate and Congress, or at least something that they had a say in. However, the current Senate and Congress for some reason have not stepped in to tell Trump that he doesn't have full/any authority over those things. That will almost certainly change when the new batch of legislators is sworn in, so there will be at least some additional restrictions on Trump in the sense that some of the restrictions he should have already been subject to will finally be applied.
