Does the author realize that everyone ran on Mamdani's affordability platform? Otherwise, they would have had nothing to offer other than being not Trump.

The 2026 midterm election showed that leftists like Michigan Senator-elect Abdul El-Sayed — and even candidates who have been affiliated with the Democratic Socialists of America — can win in competitive areas of the country, under the right circumstances.

But it also showed the danger of nominating candidates like them.

Many of them won, but they also often ran worse than other Democrats — and even further behind some of the party’s most moderate candidates.

The results clearly illustrate that nominating more moderate candidates remains the most fruitful path to winning swing seats and states. And they suggest candidates like El-Sayed could cost Democrats in less-wavey elections.

I agree. Obama ran right after getting elected as senator. AOC already has national recognition. AES not yet.

With AOC, she just hasn't led any significant policy except the Green New Deal. She's way too calculative with her decisions like the Israel offensive/defensive weapons funding. It would be interesting if she becomes more emboldened to pursue more progressive policies after this wave of democratic socialist candidates getting elected.

I would definitely like to see Van Hollen replace Schumer. AOC for Speaker but can she do that and run a presidential campaign? The country would be able to see her executive experience at display. I just don't know there are enough progressive supporters in both the Senate and House for this to become a reality.

Why are all your photos in the same place?” Baxa asked her date who then admitted he’d never been to Mykonos.

“He was just like, ‘Yeah, I just used Chat to update my Hinge since I didn’t have many photos of me that weren’t selfies. Like, they’re still me. It’s still my face,” Baxa recalled him saying. She quickly ended the date.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement leadership told agents nationwide on Tuesday to increase immigration arrests by 1,000 more people daily, returning to a previous goal of 3,000 daily arrests, according to two sources familiar with the verbal directive.

With the directive on daily arrests, ICE returns to a previous White House imposed push to arrest 3,000 people a day, an unprecedented number that the agency has previously struggled to meet. ICE had recently been taking around 2,000 people into custody daily on average — a target that officials wanted to sustain.

They were also instructed to try to reach 19,000 arrests per week, which accounts for the fact that there are generally fewer arrests over the weekend and not as many officers in the field, one of the sources said. The source stressed that the agency is trying to push officers to arrest as many people as possible for deportation. As a point of comparison, in late June, ICE arrested just over 12,500 people in a week, according to the Deportation Data project, marking a high point.
