You exist in a society, so you do sign up for those sacrifices. That crying baby may be the nurse that changes your bed pan in 40 years and whose taxes will pay for retirement and healthcare for you.
Them taking a baby on vacation is an assumption. People fly for other reasons. And even assuming it's a vacation, parents actually dont want to take babies on vacation believe it or not.
It was advertised as a perpetual mobile machine, but as we found out that was a lie. It was originally just a luxury train cruise, but then the freezing started so they repurposed it to be a self sustaining life raft. But once again, nothing lasts forever.
It seems like the biggest issue with the movie you might have is lack of detail, you can read the source material. It's not that ridiculous that eccentric billionaire converts their over engineered luxery cruise line to survive the apocalypse.

In a world where every fast food joint is vegan, this would still happen. I'm not pro meat, I just don't like equating unrelated things. As soon as meat substitutes become profitable and marketable enough, McDs will switch to them. And they will continue to extract as much profit as they can.

(Yes I know this is just referencing office space)
For me ONI scratches a different itch. It's basically a deeper more interesting colony sim. Rather than a factory game.
I had the exact thought with rogue legacy. I'm not against meta progression. But the meta progression should be more about unlocking new mechanics, areas, etc. Not ticking all your stats up 1%.
This game was just trying to teach you the most important lesson for a child: git gud.
