NGL, I am tempted by some of those - but as a CachyOS user - would that just make me a poser?
Like, the equivalent of stolen valour? 😅

I think we largely align, so please don’t mistake what I’m trying to say.
Unemployment benefits should be enough to afford people to live. Minimum wage should be higher, and afford people the ability to thrive.
The implicit incentive being to get out and find employment, as that contributes greatly more to social cohesion than anything else we’ve discussed.
Some (eg. disability payments, carers, pension) absolutely should.
But having for example unemployment benefits match the minimum award runs the risk of disincentivising work, which ultimately will have a significantly negative impact on social cohesion, and our wider economy.
Having it sit somewhere (where? not sure TBQH) below the minimum wage as a safety net, ensures people can keep a roof over their heads and food in their stomachs while they search for gainful employment.
Legitimate question; all three of the biggest supermarkets in Australia (Coles, Woolies & Aldi) are publicly traded companies - anyone can see their quarterly/annual P&Ls.
All three post net profits of less than ~3%; so out of every $100 they earn, 97% goes towards paying suppliers, staff, utilities and covering other operating costs.
Having the Government run ~200 stores isn’t going to drastically cut prices to make things more affordable, not without underpaying staff or suppliers?
My understanding was that Mamdani’s plan to open City-run supermarkets was to help address food deserts, where the only other options end up being the equivalent of convenience stores? That’s not nearly as big of a problem here in Australia.
Find a better way.
This is the tricky part, and in a way - is not within the scope of the RBA’s remit.
We thankfully have award wages tied to the CPI - so having higher inflation (over 2%) isn’t as bad for us as it would be in less developed countries (cough 🇺🇸).
In a sense, we can ride out moderate waves of higher inflation periods that are outside of our national control (such as now, with the Russia/Ukraine and US/Iran wars).
The issue becomes ensuring that a rising tide lifts all boats - so that our most vulnerable aren’t left to drown - eg. lifting Government payments in-line with CPI, rather than letting them fall behind.
I keep harping on this, but this is a massive regret - sure they were bulky and power hungry, but I would sell a kidney (not necessarily mine) to be able to buy a modern CRT to enjoy my old PS1 light gun games (Pount Blank, Ghoul Panic, Rescue Shot, Time Crisis etc.) again.
Not OP, but own a similarly open-air PC (Thermaltake Core P3).
I bought a Wolfbox MF200 duster on sale off their AliExpress store for ~$50USD; just need to just give it a quick blast every once in a while and it all remains dust free.
Honestly dust management in open frames is significantly less hassle than in closed cases - regardless of positive/negative internal pressure.
+1 for Lanterns.
My only regret is I started a week early, and could only binge the first 7 episodes!
Tap for spoiler
They have the ability to keep Hal coming back as a ring hologram for a while, mentoring Jon Stewart once he becomes an actual Green Lantern.
Alternatively, they could have the dead Hal Jordan end up as another Manhunter?
Wait, wasn’t this the same update Microsoft just yesterday said was a “predictable and low-impact” one?
The peak-years Simpsons writer’s room couldn’t come up with a better punchline.
Was never a fan of the show, so I was completely oblivious to most of the goings on until I watched Skip Intro’s video essay on it - and yikes!
that time TV normalised torture.
How about we not revisit this series, hey?
It’s like that trade-off meme; you get the resolution and bandwidth you pay for, Netflix gets all of your Telemetry data.
I may be mistaken, but I remember reading a while back that browsers are limited to 720p or 1080p for Netflix, only their apps have access to 4K, higher bitrates etc.
