This is an old PC I have. I wanted to put Linux on it and do some experiments with homelabbing, but it's so old-it only has 512 MB RAM and around 20 GB storage, so I don't think I can use it that efficiently.

Also, my main problem was that I couldn't put Linux on it because it doesn't support USB boot, and I don't have any CD to burn nor a burner. I tried other workarounds as well, but they didn't work. On top of that, since this PC is full of viruses, I also can't connect it to the internet.

So, I'm just going to sell this bad boy and purchase a secondhand PC to use as a home server.

My questions are:

  1. Since USB boot doesn't work and I can't connect to the internet, how should I format this PC so I can sell it without any worries?
  2. Are there any precautions I should take before selling this PC?

Yup, it's awful. No, I won't check the thermal paste in both of my now out of warranty GPU's (not to mention that I've never done so in my life) because I have no thermal pads. I don't have much thermal paste left either.

One of the most historic studios is closing down. Unfortunately it was dead long ago. Fuck EA

So my specs are:

CPU: i5 12th Gen

GPU: 3070

RAM: 16GB

I’ve considered a number of options for upgrading, and adding some more RAM seems to be the simplest & cheapest option for the potential improvements; 8GB RAM chips seem to still be reasonably priced, I have 2 free RAM slots, performance would experience an objective increase, and it would perhaps allow me to start effectively using self-hosted AI systems instead of dropping $20/month on Claude. But…is this advisable, and is it really as simple as plugging the extra RAM in? It’s a homebuilt, but it’s been a good few years since I really fiddled around with the internals.

Full title: Microsoft is giving Windows 11’s legacy UI dark mode instead of replacing it with modern versions, and it's a good thing. Modern versions are usually slower (see File Explorer in Windows 11 versus Win 10).

Basically just the CPU fan, case, and PSU (if you're lucky). If someone can figure out how to get Doom running on just those 3 things, young people will be able to ascend.
