I'm not so sure automated curation is "not very good".

The #1 response I see from people about leaving Spotify and other services in favor of directly buying from artists is... Discoverbility of new music.

While I personally prefer music discovery through friends, local venues, Tiny Desk Concerts, KEXP, and other human led experiences; I will not discount how valuable and the usefulness of the Music Genome Project and Pandora, or Spotify/Tidal/etc music discovery tools. And I'll also AIT that some of my favorite music has come through these automated tools.

Don't call out that, cus that's just as hateful as hate! /s

Or something like that I presume.

It's not* even tolerance paradox shit (which only exists if you misunderstand what tolerance is), it's full blown normalization of biggoted behavior.

I love the idea of DDG. However, I have the worst fucking luck getting usable results with it. Often times getting irrelevant results, even with decades of experience of practicing my search fu. I've even done some tests of jumping over to Bing to do the same search and getting far better results (if DDG even still uses Bing as a backend...).

Kagi is somewhat better, but is also lacking.
