I'm firmly left and have started to see your perspective a bit more recently. I think we tend to generalize groups of people by their bad examples, which is also done to and by centrists.

I'm thankful for the perspective of reasonable centrists, who are able to look at the reality of a situation and judge fairly, to add nuance and build bridges. What affirmed me in my group think for a long time was radicalized centrists, who are more interested in equating left and right regardless of circumstance, than in grasping problems with an open mind.

But I think I understand how that happens. It's frustrating for many leftists to have to choose between two options they don't agree with, center and right, so some become blind to their differences and fall into group-think. Maybe it is the same for centrists, some of which also start to portray all left and right as dumb ideologues and themselves as above criticism from other worldviews.

So I agree with you. We should think about singular choices more than about sides. And frankly, I really enjoy finding common ground with people from different walks of life recently.

Someone explained this to me as:

It's not that people don't want solutions, talking about their problems IS the solution. In fact "talking about it" is so effective that some people successfully earn their living with it.

The wikipedia article on humans is written like this and fun to read:

"Humans' thinner body hair and more productive sweat glands help avoid heat exhaustion while running for long distances."

"During sleep humans dream, where they experience sensory images and sounds"

"Humans commit violence on other humans at a rate comparable to other primates, but have an increased preference for killing adults, infanticide being more common among other primates."

One of my formative experiences here was regularly commenting on a new and small, but active Stardew Valley community. I also got like 11 upvotes for my comments, but those upvotes and the few responses felt so much more qualitative than those on Reddit. It actually felt like a community where you recognize the people after a while.

In Germany, the far-right launched Stolzmonat (literal translation of Pride Month) to drown out queer pride with national pride. A queer influencer managed to have it trademarked and take it from them. Now queer people celebrate Stolzmonat.

That's the premise of the Twilight Zone episode "Button, Button". After she pressed it, the man making the deal said he'd go to "a random person on Earth" offering the same to them (implying that the person being killed will be the one who pushed the button earlier in the chain)
