On January 27, 2026, the European Commission opened proceedings to assist Google in complying with two key Digital Markets Act (DMA) obligations[^18]:

  1. Interoperability Requirements:
  • Google must allow third-party services to interoperate with its operating system and software features
  • The company cannot restrict access to hardware and software features that it uses for its own services[^2]
  1. Search Data Sharing:
  • Google must provide competitors with access to search ranking, query, click and view data on fair terms
  • This data must be anonymized when it contains personal information[^2]

These proceedings follow earlier DMA enforcement actions from March 2024, when the Commission launched investigations into Google's potential self-preferencing in search results and restrictions on app developers in the Google Play Store[^10].

The Commission's role is to ensure Google implements these obligations effectively while maintaining security and privacy protections. Under the DMA, failure to comply could result in fines up to 10% of global turnover, rising to 20% for repeat violations[^8].

TORONTO (AP) — Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said Sunday his country has no intention of pursuing a free trade deal with China. He was responding to U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat to impose a 100% tariff on goods imported from Canada if America’s northern neighbor went ahead with a trade deal with Beijing.

Carney said his recent agreement with China merely cuts tariffs on a few sectors that were recently hit with tariffs.

Trump claims otherwise, posting that “China is successfully and completely taking over the once Great Country of Canada. So sad to see it happen. I only hope they leave Ice Hockey alone! President DJT”

The prime minister said under the free trade agreement with the U.S. and Mexico there are commitments not to pursue free trade agreements with nonmarket economies without prior notification.

“We have no intention of doing that with China or any other nonmarket economy,” Carney said. “What we have done with China is to rectify some issues that developed in the last couple of years.”

Prominent Republicans and gun rights advocates helped elicit a White House turnabout this week after bristling over the administration’s characterization of Alex Pretti, the second person killed this month by a federal officer in Minneapolis, as responsible for his own death because he lawfully possessed a weapon.

The death produced no clear shifts in U.S. gun politics or policies, even as President Donald Trump shuffles the lieutenants in charge of his militarized immigration crackdown. But important voices in Trump’s coalition have called for a thorough investigation of Pretti’s death while also criticizing inconsistencies in some Republicans’ Second Amendment stances.

If the dynamic persists, it could give Republicans problems as Trump heads into a midterm election year with voters already growing skeptical of his overall immigration approach. The concern is acute enough that Trump’s top spokeswoman sought Monday to reassert his brand as a staunch gun rights supporter.

A few different reasons

  1. Promoting smaller instances, because of the volume of my posting it helps makes smaller instances more recognizable
  2. Making comms on fitting smaller instances (e.g. a programming comm id make on programming.dev)
  3. Mitigating against the imposter problem
  4. Better interconnecting smaller instances

I used to think they were AI so skipped a few on my .ml cross-posting campaign, but they have provided documentation of their workflow (https://reddthat.com/post/58923858) of which seems real enough to me and have thus resumed cross-posting as encountered. If you have reason to doubt their documentation, please share

As far as the trolling, I have had limited interaction with them but it was pleasant enough

Not a repost bot, all my crossposts are done entirely by my human hands

Don't link to or participate on Lemmy.ml, join the boycott today!

Why am I cross-posting .ml content?

I cross-post from .ml to the nearest relevant non-.ml comm to reduce the influence of .ml comms and indirectly, the instance as a whole, to help vitilize non-.ml comms and make it an easier decision for other instance admins to defederate because one key reason I identified that admins don't want to defederate is because .ml still has some very large comms and some active niche comms.

    Megathread on the issue

    Some highlights from the link:

.ml admin, Nutomics continued transphobia https://lemmy.world/post/29222558 The original transphobic Comment from Nutomic: https://lemmy.world/post/18236068

"If you don't support Russia then you just don't understand geopolitics" ~dessalines, .ml admin, dev https://lemmy.world/post/27352415

"Don't worry guys, the Uyghur Genocide was REALLY just birth control! ~dessalines, .ml admin, dev https://lemmy.world/post/30580167

"See! nobody died IN Tiananmen Square, just AROUND it, so it doesn't count!!" ~ Davel, .ml admin https://lemmy.world/post/30673342

"NK is actually good and anything counter to that is Western propaganda!" ~dessalines, .ml admin, dev https://lemmy.world/post/31595035

General negative sentiment to other instances who haven't "seen the way" yet ~davel, .ml admin https://lemmy.world/post/27426510

And so so much documentation on clear heavy handed censorship and bias also on the link. So much I can't even put them all here because this comment would be really long.

I believe the behavior of its admins (the main admins are Lemmy devs) does harm to the overall growth of the Lemmy-verse and maybe even the Thrediverse (since Lemmy kinda kicked off the Thrediverse) because of its association with the devs of Lemmy and their insistence to use .ml as their personal political platform to spread harmful propaganda

On the outside, bringing up Lemmy frequently leads to comments like "Lemmy? Isn't that the place with a bunch of tankies?" Or "Tried Lemmy, but found it full of pro Russia crap so I left". The best way forward from that I see is to either widely defederate from .ml like the rest of the Triad, or pressure them to put a fair and unbiased as possible admin team.

What incentive would they have to develop a callback system

Well they don't develop it, it's a feature of whatever PBX/VoIP system they went with.

and use it, but delay the callbacks?

It wouldn't be the first nonsensical business decision that businesses latch onto for reasons. You could ask 10 different call center employees and get 10 different reasons why. I've personally heard a few different reasons from inept managers, call center staff being paid min wage so they don't care to people on the call back list get placed in a lower priority queue
