I get commercials for their AI search.

I also use their non-AI search.

It seems valid to bring this up when they are trying to become the standard for some schools.

I would like to believe that they are above board, but I do not believe anything about corporate values, because corporations are not people. (And even the agendas of people can change. Looking at you, Andy Yen, Proton CEO.)

Camping for me as a kid was up in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. Paddle a few hours and you are away from most signs of civilization. No planes overhead, no cell towers, no electric motors.

I would love to do that now again at my age, but that kind of camping takes skills I never developed.

Keep at it and hopefully you'll have a lifetime of adventure with your kids!

Telling a friend's girlfriend that he was doing much more serious drugs than she was comfortable with.

This did kill their already strained relationship (They were broken up after he had drained their joint bank account with pay-per-minute online porn) but somehow my friendship with both survived for a few years after.

They never got back together and his life went to shit, including some jail time for embezzlement.

She, as far as I know, bedded the next guy to hit on her and had a kid. I hope it worked out as she deserved better.

My other friends had always hated her, and loved that I had driven a wedge between them... until they found out that I essentially outed them for giving/selling him the drugs.

Following that, all my friends knew where I stood, and those who distanced themselves from me... I knew why. One of them, more than a decade later, is in prison for murder after selling fentanyl-laced drugs and causing a fatal overdose.

Several I am still close with. They know me, respect me, and understand that I will do the right thing, even if I am not the wronged party.

Absolutely, and I still do it at 52 years of age. Powers of two, three, five. I also convert letters to numbers, add them, and subtract 26 to figure out which letter is the total of the word, phrase, or license plate.

If I play boggle a lot, I will start to dream word patterns.

When I was a teenager, my Dad would point out a license plate and have me total them and convert to hexadecimal.

In my case both, but I am an atheist who believes that this world and this life is all that we have and can prove exists.

I am agnostic enough to admit that could be wrong, and underlying this is that existing forever, even in paradise, sounds terrifying to me.

  • My latest loaf (lemmy.world)

    Loaf:

    Crumb:

This is a very soft loaf. Usually they come out a little denser. I am playing with the baking time to soften the bottom crust and this soft crumb is a delightful surprise.

    Recipe:

    300 grams bread flour

    150 grams wheat flour

    15 grams yeast

    30 grams salt

25 grams diastatic malt powder (optional)

Toasted sesame seeds to top (optional)

1.5 cups water (78% hydration? First time paying attention to that percentage to be honest.)

I made the dough yesterday afternoon and put it in the fridge overnight. (I actually made a double batch so another loaf is fermenting further.)

Took it out at 9am, at noon I shaped it and put it in the oven with the light on to rise. At 3pm I took it out and preheated the oven to 450 with a cast iron loaf pan in to heat.

Then I put the seeds on, transferred from a normal loaf pan with parchment paper to the heated pan and scored the loaf.

Baked for 26 minutes with the lid on the 5 more with the lid off.

We saved you from being interred

Now you're out eating a turd

I yell but you are undeterred

Came up with that in the shower on Monday. We recently adopted an eight year old golden retriever with severe anxiety issues who was scheduled to be put down.

Her old dad died a couple of years ago and she never got over it. My wife Amy (double bonus song reference, although she doesn't appreciate me renaming her song) thought giving her a hard reset in a new home might work.

And it has, she is fantastic, and even my cats like her.

We were all prepared for an anxious dog and got standard Labrador problems instead!

Pic below with a bonus Abed Nadir:

Hey all, I'm that relative normie up in Duluth, Minnesota, who took in Keris a year and a half ago, and I need help finding a new and safer place for them to go.

First and foremost, this is not a plea for money, and if anyone has such offers they should go directly to Keris.

Bluntly, my wife is done with us having a houseguest, which is totally understandable, so I don't want to point fingers but make it understood that we aren't fishing for cash.

So on to Keris. They're non-binary, in their 30s, and mostly keep to themselves. I like hanging out with them, as nerds we get along. They're clean, quiet, considerate, and basically just need a safe place with their own room and preferably bathroom. Cat friendly is a massive plus.

I'm looking for ideas and offers of help. They do not have a job and do have some Minnesota state benefits, but not much money saved. I'll answer any other questions in comments or privately.

Personally, I think getting them out of the country is best, and would be able to get them to Canada if that's of any help. But stateside offers of help are also appreciated.

    Basic recipe at: https://www.gimmesomeoven.com/no-knead-bread/

I now add a tablespoon of diastatic malt powder and knead it a fair bit for the 2-3 hour version.

Baked at 450F for 30 minutes top on, 5 off.

The browning on the bottom (in the comments) is not burning but delicious caramelization. The diastatic malt powder causes the crust to brown with sugars.

Will add a picture of crumb once it is fully cooled.
