It was way easier than I thought it would be to get started. I put Sparky Linux on an 18 year old laptop and moved a bunch of movies and shows over to it, got Tailscale squared away, and now I can watch my media ANY WHERE IN THE WORLD. The only problem is storage. Jellyfin doesn't recognize my external drive for some reason and says the path is invalid. Is there a simple solution I'm missing?

Also I'm just stoked I was able to do this. I know I just followed a recipe, but it's a pretty cool feeling having all my music and shows right there, and I don't have to pay some middle man one red can't to access media I already own.

Please take this question as coming from ignorance rather than a challenge: How would anyone know that you are using Graphene without you telling them? The Pixel line is still used to run stock Android, and the Graphene OS UI is similar enough that a casual inspection shouldn't raise any flags.

If you're concerned about scanning your phone, consider a physical boarding pass. When you land in the US, turn off your phone and put it in your backpack/ carry-on or whatever.

The last time I traveled internationally from the US was 2025 so I don't know how it is now, but how would CBP know what your operating system is?

You can request a physical boarding pass at check in, so TSA and the gate will never even have to see your phone.

This depends on your definition of cheap, but you can get an unlocked pixel 7 on Backmarket for about $200 and slap Graphene on it. Depending the length of your vacation you might be able to reset the phone and return it after you're back.

A question as old as time, I know.

I'm getting away from Google and I've done the easy stuff: CoMaps, Proton mail (I know, not the best move), aveslibre, etc. I currently don't have the time (or the knowledge base) to learn how to self host, but hopefully that will replace Drive and such in the future.

But I digress. I'm looking at a new OS for my phone. I'm currently in a contract with a phone that is incompatible with alternative OSs. Graphene needs a Pixel. Used, they're $150-400. /e/OS will run on a Motorola or whatever and those are like $80.

There's also the option of going full Fairphone with /e/os and I like that idea in the future.

The internet people tell me that Graphene is the best due to ease of installation, privacy, and security.

I don't need a lot of security. I just want Google to stop suckling all that sweet, sweet data from my teat.

    What are your thoughts?
