I opened YT last night and this video was the first thing I saw. Even as I was listening to sweet sweet new Morphine, I had to look for articles reassuring me it was real and not some new AI music scam.

More Sandman is always welcome.

I recently went on the same journey and decided on Floccus on WebDAV. All I wanted was a straightforward way to share my bookmarks across devices, not be locked into anything, and not have a ton of features I'd never use. Since I already had WebDAV set up, it was just a matter of installing clients.

Now, I'm no mathematician, but what is going on with their math? If you're asking people to give it up for 24 hours, why minimize the reclaimed hours by only counting 4 per person?

"That's reclaiming 312 hours from big tech's control. If 1000 people signed up, we could save 24,000 hours."

Yeah, same. Earlier this year I thought "Hey, people seem to love auto tagging with MB, Picard, Beets. I should try it."

But that was short lived. I don't want release information outside of artists, titles, albums, year. I just have no need for it. I know how to get what I want from mp3tag.

I am looking at using Beets to keep things clean, maybe find missing artwork, and fetch lyrics. But the vital information I'll keep reviewing.

I haven't ever gotten comfortable with how Picard works, but I'll check out QL. Thanks!

Started it last night. Controls are taking some getting used to. And I know I'm bad at games, but I died on each of the first two missions. The graphics and style are so nice though. Really looking forward to spending more time and getting into it.

Not quite server related, but in the middle of a workday this week, I decided I was done with Windows on my home PC. Installed Zorin OS and things have been going really well. Any issues I've had have been really minor and mostly revolve around me being picky about theming.

I haven't found a native mp3 tagger that makes sense to me yet, so I just installed Mp3tag. I'm open to suggestions on that front.

On the server side, it's mostly just keeping on. A friend has me considering Home Assistant, I just don't know if the value is there for me. I need to do some housekeeping today and update and clean up unused containers.

Has Cop Killer ever been officially rereleased after they pulled it from the album? I guess I just assume that Warner Brothers or whoever owns the master recordings and won't ever put it out.

I was in high school when it originally released and had my Cop Killer version for years. Not sure what ever happened to it.

Anyway, the outrage around that song always struck me as fucking absurd. The track right before it - Momma's Gotta Die Tonight - has him burning, beating, and dismembering his mother. No one said shit about that one. So I always felt like, okay America, I see which lives you value. (In the songs, Momma is not better than the cops, but that isn't really the point.)

The whole album is angry, over the top, and often laughing at itself. People are just stupid and racist.

I'm finally making a real effort to add beets to my life. I've been hesitant because I like what I like and I (mostly) know what I'm doing, you know? I also have a lot of local independent albums that are just not likely to get tagged anyway.

But here I am. Yesterday I was able to work through:

    • Implementing my preferred directory structure and naming conventions
    • Adding album art (embedded and in the folder)
    • Embedding lyrics
    • Adding ReplyGain information

I use Navidrome as my server and have a collection of about 2000 albums.

What are some of your tips for using beets?

What cool things are you doing?

What should I be thinking about as I go about this?

Like soup-to-nuts. I know I need to document what I'm doing and I've started several times, but then I never go back and make updates. I don't know if it's just the ADHD or if I'm just going about it or thinking about it in the wrong way.

    So I'm curious about:

    • what you use for your documentation
    • how you organize it
    • what information you include
    • how you work documentation into your changes/tinkering flow

Edit: Dang, folks! You all have given me a lot to read through, think about, and explore. Thank you!

I fired up Blorp this morning and not comments or new stories would load.

I also have Interstellar installed, so I tried that and I only got this message:

    error

So I tried in my browser. I saw the humanity check ever so briefly, but then was moved along to the site. After that, I was able to refresh Interstellar and it worked. Blorp needed a restart, but looks okay now too.

Less a question than a report...
