It's called being a normal person. Everyone is more sensitive to friends and family than random strangers....

This obsessive need to pathologize ordinary life expereinces is counter-productive to everyone. You're not special, you're just boring and average. Most online 'neurodivergents' are not autistic or adhd, they are just self-appointed obsessive jerks who can't own up to their social failings (which often aren't even really failings in real life, just in their own heads.)

Way too many online weirdos basically want to be mentally ill, because it gives them something to blame that isn't themselves and it absolves them of responsibility they are so desperately seeking to avoid.

What's funny is the internet blew up tomorrow most of these so called neurodivergent would be forced to mingle in real life with folks all their self-proclaimed issues would go away because they wouldn't have online spaces to bias confirm themselves into a neurotic fixation there is something 'wrong' with them. Or worse, try to convince others of their 'diagnosis' they are throwing random based on a few random internet comments. They also couldn't circlejerk themselves hours per day about what morally superior geniuses they are based on what flavor of linux they use.

This person does not care about you. A lot of people in relationships don't care about their partners. You will be a lot happier alone than with a person who is nothing but an emotional drain on your life.

more popular, and more problems that come with popularity. like a continual slide in content quality.

What i notice the most the past year is a huge uptick in ragebait and doombait posting. some larger communities are like 95% nothing but click-farming headlines and users trying to one-up each other in how raging and hateful their comments are.

even a lot of the lighthearted stuff, like memes and showerthoughts, 90% of the posts are just doomerbait.

Just go out. Go to bars, cafes, restaurants, movies, plays/concerts, etc and sometimes just hang out. Places also used to be open much later and they were much cheaper. I never got drunk.

I had many places I'd go out regularly. a lot of them closed and got replaces by much more expensive places that cater to a ultra snobby crowd I don't want to be around.

rage is the primary currency of the internet these days. it's what motivates people to interact, and repeatedly interact.

You ever notice how users who are irrationally angry with you will comment at you multiple times? yeah...

Mostly ignore people and go out into the woods in various ways.

    Or read books.

I used to go out a lot but increasingly people IRL in my city are weird and hostile, like a lot of fediverse users, so it's just nicer to stay home than go outside and be harassed by a weirdo with a complex. Prior to '22 nobody ever came up to me looking to start a fight ever, since middle school. But basically every other month someone tries to start a fight with me on the street or at a restaurant now, it's insane. IME it feels like the insanity of online/social media rage/hostility is bleeding over into reality and people feel like they must tell random people they see IRL how much they hate them.

That's why you need to use the block button liberally here. It sucks, but once you block a few instances and a couple of dozen users, the content here is more moderate and less insane.

Sadly the small size of lemmy/fedi allows a few dozen users to basically dominate the content pool. And they are vicious towards anyone they regard as hostile to themselves.

Once I blocked .ml, blahj, and a few others, the content here got way more sane and less negative. The users in those instance have bully complexes.

I don't consider my self a paragon of moral virtue and intellectual genius based on my political opinions.

I also really enjoy my PS5 and my Switch 2. That's not allowed here.

What kind of ads or 'suggested' content gets pushed to you the most on the internet? Make up your new identity based on the ad/suggested content you get served the most.

Algorithm(s) thinks I'm a menopausal Latina woman who loves cats, and wants to drive a truck/SUV. I also get a ton of of the 'is your boyfriend/husband abusing you?' type of therapy-talk content, which is hilarious.

Most of my ads are for menstrual products and std/hormone pharma drugs, then it's a mix of cat/pet product ads and lots of truck/suv ads. At least 1/3 are in spanish.

Only one of these that is remotely accurate is I do have a cat.

Online or offline. News keeps reporting about loneliness and disconnection, but in my experience it's just that it's harder to interact with people in a civil way because they are so hostile, angry, and arrogantly convinced their viewpoints and experiences are the only legitimate ones.

Not to mention the lack of civility towards servers and other service workers. I can't recall if I was just indifferent 10 years ago, but on a almost daily basis it blows my mind how openly rude many people are to servers and such, which seemed like a much more rare thing when I was younger.

I'm weird, but I like colors and real wood tones. It just kind of hurts me to see literally everyone it seems, live in this 'aesthetic' where everything is pure white walls and grey fake wood floors. And how this scheme has taken over every home, office, and retail space.

I guess it's the equivalent of how all 80% cars are gray scale now? (black, white, or a gray/silver shade). Why has color become so 'offensive' the past decade?

It's so bad that I've had folks tell me my blue car is 'weird'. and my home, which is wood trimmed/floored with maple stained wood, and off-white tints in each room, is 'gross'. My bedroom's are robin's egg blue, and my kitchen and living room are an off white yellow. I love it, especially at night when I use the low-temp lighting and it's warm instead of HARSH. Folks keep telling me how 'old' it looks and that i need to repaint everything BRIGHT white and then put that shitty grey flooring over everything. I hate them.

Basically, I can't figure out the appeal or Tiktok and other types of repetitive media consumption where you are doing the same thing over and over and over. I remember trying it out and just being so bored and frustrated with the entire thing.

I feel the same way about TV shows, and restaurants and all that too. Going to the same place every Friday night and getting the same order and watching the same TV show on repeat just sounds like hell to me.

Or hanging out and talking about the same topics over and over and over, with never a new or novel thing to say, drinking the same beer/wine/cocktail over and over.

What is the appeal of living this way?
