It would have been my sister's birthday today. I am going to go out and have some sashimi in the sun

because I need to say this but it doesn't need readingFuck cancer. I miss you every day. The world misses you. You'd be proud of your kids - they are such beautiful humans. I can't believe I am about to turn the age you were when it happened. I'm scared. I miss you.

    Well that's the purge done.

Only in the last 3 years has this happened.

I get down here, first night crash early, second night wild restlessness, fever dreams / sweats, it's like I've eaten something wrong running to the loo several times, third night all gone, good sleep and everything is back to normal.

Weird. Only happens when there's no one here, no stress, same diet. It's like a weight is lifted, body spazzes out for a day or two then it just stops. Every time.

Missed bros b'day dinner on fri. Very much a tradition, ol' boy always books a restaurant and it's frowned upon if you miss one. This was basically "fuck it I need the purge" don't care who sulks.

Called the p's last night expecting the sulk. Nothing. Was speaking to ol' girl and she was not impressed with bro (arrogant, speaking over). She's a bit more honest about some things in her mental state. Think ol' boy sees that now too. Have been accused many times of driving a wedge in the family by avoiding bro/sil. Not any more though. Finally put to rest (which is a relief, was second guessing myself way too long w/ that).

Sort of a 4 in 1 win. Purge, no shitty dinner, no sulk, now no perceived wedge driving. All I had to do was nothing for 3 days. Amazing.

SIL's family are here on tues. (15 of them) to see her baby for the first time so that is a dinner I'm happy to go to (they're good fun and it'll be nice to see them meet the new addition).

    Anyway this morning's sunrise:

    with a relevant rave choon

Don't tell your nonna I'm eating several-days-old pesto on this pasta. The staleness is punishment enough.

Tell her about the cream and prawns I put in 'carbonara' the other day. I won't win but keen to be demolished.

Being told I canโ€™t send or receive email because Onedrive is full and being leaned on to upgradeโ€ฆ

I already copied all the files over to a separate folder previously but just to be sure I did it again so I can drag that one onto a hard drive. Deleted some old recordings and photos I had backups of from Onedrive to free up storage, and unlinked the pc.

I donโ€™t like how everything is a subscription model and in the cloud now. I really need to get the rest of my stuff out of cloud onto my computer and then onto separate physical storage.

Fucked up you can't send email because of it. I think Microsoft defaults to putting all your files in onedrive but your computer will have way more storage than the free version. With a bit of copy/paste and rerouting directories for documents and downloads you should be able to free that up

My first thought about the Correspondents Dinner thing is that they faked it....that feels wrong and depressing.

  • Day 3 or maybe 4 of The Snottening, its a bit hard to tell. Feeling a bit better this morning. I think the nice weather is helping. The hanky tsunami is washed and hanging on the line, much to the dismay of the local maggies who are pretending to be scared of the flapping cloth. They demanded rolled oats reparations for the insult of flappy clothy bits hanging on their personal perching line.

It seems like the kids' laptop has developed a very spicy pillow. To the extent I can't open the case to look at it. I'm hoping I can pry this thing open because whilst it's from 2012 I'd rather save it from becoming ewaste. I just put Wacky Wheels on this thing for them!

I'll try take the battery out one more time when it hasn't been used or on charge for a while. Otherwise, I guess we'll have to chuck it. I have another older laptop that's a massive spec upgrade from this one I'm not using I was figuring out what to do with, it could always be donated to the kids

so Miss Seagoon is having a game afternoon, we are playing gloomhaven

reminds me of monopoly , with all the cards and such

I feel bad but this game , I just don't care

it's not my jam, I like simple games that require me to think up a strategy

not a complicated game that gives me strategies

no one can give me the aim of the game ๐Ÿ™„ I assume it's world domination

I'd like to make some nacho cheese again but I'm not in the mood to grate 250g of cheese. Is there any way to get close by cutting it up or using a different technique? I'm thinking maybe a potato peeler?

You can just slice it up thinly I guess. If you're going to thoroughly melt it anyway it won't matter too much.

That's what I might try. This recipe pretty much calls for making a roux, then turning the heat off and slowly stirring in all the cheese so it doesn't get burnt. Maybe I could risk it and leave the heat on low to introduce bigger chunks of cheese then turn the heat off

    Calm down Battery-San!

But seriously, it's impressive a battery from 2011 lasted so long. I should have taken it out when it stopped holding charge instead of leaving it in hoping for the best

Hello DT people!!! Long time no speak, how is everyone?

    caaaaat

(I know it looks like the harness is ridiculously tight and must be cutting off his circulation, but I promise he's fine! He's not chonky, just a super long haired flooooof. That also means when the floof is displaced, he looks a little lopsided)

    Cat brag

I seriously think I won the cat lottery with this little guy. I don't think I socialised him enough when he was young, he's pretty scared of visitors and absolutely terrified of tradespeople. But he's so, so confident and easygoing around me. If I leave him alone enough to sleep, he will let me do pretty much anything. He's also a big fan of water! And he genuinely loves belly rubs and being carried around. The least cat-like cat I've ever met

Caaaaat in triplicate! (also a request)

On that last note: I do come with a request: does anyone have any reccos for a cat or animal rescue? I've looked around, and it kind of seems like the common consensus is that pretty much any shelter in Melbourne is fine. I've been to that cat protection society and quite like them. Looking into getting a second cat later this year, he's a pretty playful sort of a cat, so I think he might benefit from a friend.

Also, I'm particularly interested in a shelter or rescue that does some level of personality matching. Although he's quite confident around me, I have seen that he is not a fighter. He is a bolter. He doesn't even hiss at the vet, he just tries to slink away and hide under the examination table. So I don't think he would cope well with a strong personality or rough play fighter

So, keen for reccs. I know most people here are cat people, so figured you'd all have thoughts. Super appreciate any suggestions! I'm still in the inner west, but willing to travel
