Celebrating festival and art for a week while choking artists and whimsy out of society for the rest of the year. Real life poetry.

This is what rich corporate city types and tech bro weekend Buddhist warrior coke heads think self governance, self reliance, and enlightenment look like. These same people can’t grow a single damn plant from seed when they get home.

Burning man reminds me off a club that opened in the city i used to live in. It was different than all the other clubs there, because it was counter culture, ranchy and roudy, and they played mainly 80's metal, it was great. About half a year later, the place was 2\3's just corpo guys and investment bankers who wanted to cosplay as punks for a night. The prices went up like crazy, and the usual crowd didn't go anymore, and it was a meeting point for cunts. It closed about a year or two later, because it became the biggest sausage party with the most annoying people imaginable

Counter-culture becomes culture, which becomes fuel for the next counter-culture.

But the lesson is not that people inevitably sell out or that authenticity inevitably decays. It’s that there is no such thing as authenticity; it’s all social status games.

(And if you read that and think “pfft, not me — I don’t play social status games”… congratulations, that’s you playing the social status game.)

People can’t stop themselves from competing for status . It is branded into the side of the brain before you are born.^[cit req]^ As a primate, status hierarchies are a part of life,¹ and when you remove yourself from the competition² in the mainstream you just join the competition in the counterculture.³

Amazing leaps of anti science assertions. Homo Sapiens are, anthropologically one of the primates that evolved cooperation to a point of Egalitarianism.¹ They are not the only mammals observed to emergence cooperation as species, some insects even emergence this strategy. “Status” varies among species, and group dynamics. The competition most mammals had to endure was raw survival in nature. Now that we can tool, shelter, heck even aquaduct, cooperation is more achievable than it was millenia ago.² Counterculture is also an extremely narrow view to lense our complex life. We’ve had periods of “yes and yes” “and also this,” “maybe even that.” Witnessing our radiant exuberant planet diametrically instead of holistically is just constrictive.³ But the drive to survive is very strong.

Burning man is basically an elitist thing that small time CEOs go to to see naked women and have orgies.

A few good people still go there just to help prevent life loss and such. It's basically an eshitified event now. Sometime ago it seemed like an interesting new thing to do. Now, you can't even if you wanted.
