Across the US this year, farmers have seen costs soar and the price of their produce tumble as Donald Trump’s flagship tariffs sparked a trade war with China.

American farmers, who voted en masse for Trump last year, are now warning of the worst economic crisis since the 1980s, when soaring interest rates and a slump in exports saw the price of crops and the value of farmland collapse. About 300,000 farmers defaulted on their loans and thousands were driven into bankruptcy.

“We spent a hell lot of time in China building relationships, building those markets,” he said. “And then you basically piss it all away, to be blunt.”

Yet every future election cycle they'll still vote for the Leopards Eating Faces Party again, in the hopes of it not being their faces next time. Keep it up you fucking idiots!

Being farmers you'd think they understand the aspects of reaping what they sow. If only they could read, they would have read the fine print. Ah well.

Why is the "he" referring to Trump capitalized in the title

For this post, 'cause it's the capitalization in the article

For the article, because either someone misunderstands the rules of capitalization in English or they are asserting Trump is equivalent to the God of Abraham.

He was never your friend you fucken ass breathers. Idk how you could hear any of his rhetoric as a farmer who relies on exports and be like "fuck yeah I'm gonna be way better off!" Go grab the shared braincell from Bo and sit in a corner to think about your logic there.

Trump is just here to oversee the dismantling and selling off of American assets and making the country even more of a collection of confused slaves that it already is, because the powers that be no longer have national but global interests, and to get some bribe money in the process. Everything else is spin.

    They're getting their hand outs

The poor millionaire farmers are going to be just fine getting paid to grow nothing.

They voted for the market to die so they would get free money and that's what's happening.

yup, farmers union has some great PR making out this constant "woe is me" shit nonstop, but they're probably the biggest parasites next to wallstreet and the banks. that ol' mom and pop idealic farm shit simply doesn't exist anymore, except for rich retirees that want to pretend they're farmers in their golden years

the special bankruptcy class they get write all these "losses" off onto the rest of us, same as they've been doing for the last 100 years. uncle sam pays then to throw food away, every. single. year.

back during the great depression that had cops stationed to beat back starving mobs from garhering the food they were leaving to rot in piles

It's not like the Democrats would try and capitalize on it. They believe these places are too entrenched.

But someone needs to help educate the farmers on what social policies would do to help them. If no one ever tries to change the conversation there. What do we expect them to do except what they've always been doing.

Argentina got a massive handout because Trump's buddies were about to lose the election. If you're a loyal republican, all that means is no one will ever have to help you because they know they still have your vote.

You're on the brink of war with Venezuela, they've removed Calibri font from federal documentation, and half of the White House has been demolished while the rest of the building is vandalized. And all the while, it's more expensive to feed yourself.

Facing bankruptcy is a small price to pay, when you get all of these things.

Two in the thoughts, one in the prayers.

Quick! Join the army. BOOM! $1,776.00 dollars in your pocket. Or, as they used to call it, "30 pieces of silver". Fuck Trump. Farmers and minimum wage retail/fast food workers are the most important people out in that capitalist quagmire and should be treated way better than they are.

...and I don't want to see a single red penny in welfare sent to these people. Welfare queens the lot of them. Should have planted a crop that sells, like hemp or sweet corn.

I pretty much agree with you, but keep a couple things in mind.

    1. Soybeans are also a nitrogen fixer, and thus often planted in rotation with corn anyway. Their replacement would have to be also.

    2. Even relatively small farmers can have a million dollars invested in the equipment for planting and harvesting soybeans specifically—equipment which I'm sure is now taking a good hit in resale value. Mainly I'm talking headers, though there are so many little attachments on combines for different crops it makes your head spin. Seriously, I was just on John Deere's configurator for one of their lower-tier models, and wowsers.) ^(…obligatory don't buy a Deere!)

TL;DR: While it's true that the majority of them should have seen this coming a long time ago but didn't, but short term it's not as simple as just "planting a different crop." It'd have to be a crop that they already have the equipment for, which is also a nitrogen fixer, and has comparable market demand. And, if such a crop existed, they would have planted that in the first place.

TL;DR the TL;DR: geez your attention span isn't that short, educate yo'self. 😅

So we give farmers money to encourage soybean planting that we don't need so they can continue to plant corn.

Then we force everyone to buy ethanol gas that's bad for the environment, bad for cars, and more expensive than regular gas so we can subsidize corn planting. Or... Used as an artificial sweetener for food that caused health issues. Or... Used as inappropriate feed for cattle.

Maybe we just need to encourage farmers to plant crops people actually want and need.

Farm Bankruptcy is not the same as a traditional bankruptcy. The farmers don't lose their property.
