Hendrix, the Kansas Young Republicans vice chair, and Luke Mosiman, chair of the Arizona Young Republicans, were, at 24, the youngest participants in the chat whose ages Mother Jones could determine through public reporting and records. Politico reported Hendrix used variations of a racial slur more than a dozen times in the chat.

According to Kansas NPR affiliate KCUR, Hendrix lost his job as communications assistant for Kansas’ Republican Attorney General Kris Kobach after Politico reporters asked his boss, who is also the state GOP chair, about the texts. Hendrix did not respond to Politico’s requests for comment. The Kansas GOP said it was “disgusted” by the comments and that they do not reflect the views of Kansas Republicans, who, it emphasized, “elected a black chair a few months ago.” The Kansas Young Republicans reportedly became “inactive” after the messages were published.

We elected a token black guy, so we're not racist.

    Ew

I said in another thread that I worried that they weren’t speaking sardonically. Speaking that way in a setting where they intend to affect change, at that age, these people are actively and sincerely choosing to make the world a worse place for everyone.

It's just words, guys. But if you mock Charlie Kirk, then get deported, lib.

That's only because republicans 18-24, and 36-90 weren't in the chat. If they were, they would have been saying the exact same things.

Some of these "kids" are older than Charlie Kirk. They were literally all in the same age range and demographic. This is the modern Republican party when you don't include the old people.

Great now "boys will be boys" is a dog whistle.

"Boys will be boys" was always about getting into foolish hijinks. It has been co-opted by shitheads to excuse abhorrent behavior. And every time it happens there needs to be significant pushback from from folks to take it back from the bastards.

  • sadly it's hard to take back a term.

    shitheads missuse the term

normal people then avoid such term

    now it's a bad term

any attempt at reclaiming it will be suspicious as if someone just wants an excuse to use that word.

    it's mostly a slut thing.

but with slurs it's "easier" to reclaim, as the community affected by it, can choose to use it.

    in this case it's different.

One problem with this defense? The people in the group chat aren’t “kids.” By scanning public records and media reports, Mother Jones determined the ages of eight of the 11 participants in the chat: They appear to range from 24 to 35. Ages for three other participants—Bobby Walker, Michael Bartels, and Rachel Hope—were not publicly available. Bartels declined to comment to Politico, and the outlet could not reach Hope for comment. Walker told Politico parts of the chat “may have been altered, taken out of context, or otherwise manipulated,” adding, “The language is wrong and hurtful, and I sincerely apologize.”

How would it have been better if they were kids? It'd be worse: displaying the kind of bullshit being handed down to the next generation.

They're inept, stupid, racist adults. Pray they don't teach kids to be like themselves (though I'm sure they will).

Kids at least might not be aware how dumb they are. Too many of them just say stuff like that to be edgy.

They aren't aware of the implications that if they want to gas people, other people might want to gas them.

    Open message to Vance:

When you say kid, I think 4 to 10 years old. A tween is 11 or 12 years old. A teen is 13 to 18. Technically, a 19 year old is also a teenager, but they're also a young adult. Nobody older than that gets the 'kid' pass from me.

These people were in their 20s and 30s. They are grown-ass adults who should have responsibilities of grown-ass adults. If you say 'I love Hitler,' at any age, you get another title from me. "Shithead." And that transcends age.

    Now fuck off, couch fucker.

[T]he ages of eight of the 11 participants in the chat: They appear to range from 24 to 35. Ages for three other participants—Bobby Walker, Michael Bartels, and Rachel Hope—were not publicly available.

The oldest appears to be Joe Maligno, who public records suggest is 35. In the chat, he spoke about gas chambers and used a racial slur toward Chinese people.

Annie Kaykaty, New York’s national committee member who, in response to Maligno’s comment about gas chambers, said, “I’m ready to watch people burn now,” is 28. Alex Dwyer, chair of the Kansas Young Republicans, who wrote a series of numbers used by white supremacists and wrote, “Sex is gay,” is 29; Peter Giunta, former chair of the New York State Young Republicans, who referred to Black people as “watermelon people” and “monkeys” and said, at another point, “I love Hitler,” is 31.

Chat member and supposed “kid” Samuel Douglass is a 27-year-old state senator

Just a reminder that JD has three kids (actual kids, not 35 year olds) with his wife, who is a woman of color. If he won’t defend them against blatant racism, do his supporters actually think he gives a fuck about them?

Also, a good parent would take the opportunity to teach their children why what they said is wrong, not just tell them how to avoid responsibility:

Vance said he would tell his three kids—“especially my boys”—“don’t put things on the internet. Be careful with what you post. If you put something in a group chat, assume that some scumbag is going to leak it in an effort to try to cause you harm or cause your family harm.”

Our Vice President is a huge piece of shit.

    Well she is caucasian tbf

Its like that skit from the office, which is basically based on two real life supreme court cases. In the first one, the scotus said anyone with white skin was white regardless of origin. Then when a very light skinned Japanese guy from Hawai’i used that to argue that he was white, they said that to be white you also have to be caucasian. But simultaneously disqualified anyone who was caucasian but didnt have white skin.

The concepts of colorism really make no sense at the end of the day

While they are still children, they are more of a potential problem. Of you don't think it matters whether they are kids or adults, why do you think they are messaging it that way? Do you think it just doesn't matter to you and it does matter to others, or it doesn't matter to anyone?

If it's the first, then that should make it matter to you. The more people that take the fascist problem seriously, as it is, the more chance for resistance and change.

Absolutism and not understanding the nuance of messaging from them and others makes it harder to resist them. Comedy and accuracy are important tools against fascism. The only power is the power people give them. Remove that legitimacy and they lose the power.
