Not even justifying his death - conservatives will whine about anyone who correctly points out the fact that neither a bulletproof vest, security, nor a good guy with a gun would have saved Charlie Kirk. But he might still be alive if 1) The U.S. had sensible gun regulations, and 2) If the right hadn't been ridiculing the very idea of empathy and celebrating every murder of their political opponents over the past 10 years.

Right-wing politics and its consequences killed Charlie Kirk.

And as the right continues to bemoan left-wing violence, it's important to remember that political violence is very much a right-wing issue: https://youtu.be/B2MB2re24oA?t=962

Sorry about the shitty AI audio, I was trying something new hoping that it would make the whole video-making process easier and it didn't work out at all. If you set the speed to 1.25 it'll sound a bit more reasonable.

What's the 41% in reference to?

Some large-scale surveys suggest that about 40% - 41% of trans people have attempted suicide at least once in their life. There are studies that report even higher rates, and I've occasionally seen transphobes also use "43%" instead of "41%", but the latter estimate is the most famous one.

Of course, such a high rate of suicide attempts isn't met with any empathy or concern from conservatives, but with false claims that gender affirmation is harmful for trans people, and often outright glee as well.

If we had empathy we’d pass universal healthcare - most gun deaths are suicides, more than any other form. gunviolencearchive.org. Banning guns won’t help, those people will still want to be dead. Fewer of them may succeed, but the human misery will still be there.

And by we I mean my fellow Democrats. Republicans don’t even pretend to give a shit.

Honestly I've mostly seen it used as a way to tell trans people to kill ourselves ("join the 41%" is something I've seen spammed to trans spaces). I've also seen it used as you describe though. The raw depravity of humanity unfortunately

I saw a qoute where he wanted a patriot to bail out a person who attacked political opponents with a hammer, isnt that condoning political violence by proxy? I might be misinformed, im not in the us so I have more access to memes than proper news outlets

No. Nobody is "owed" empathy, you garner it through your actions and circumstances, which is why I and millions of people have absolutely zero empathy for this scumbag. This is a very simple case of you reap what you sow.

Murder can never be condoned or accepted, and it must be met with the appropriate consequences. I do however understand what would lead someone to believe their only hope for a future would be to put a bullet through this guy's neck.

It's the Luigi situation all over. Nobody condones murder, but we empathise more with the killer than with the asshole who was fucking us over.

I think everyone, by default deserves empathy. But this guy worked really hard to forfeit that baseline right. He literally said he’s fine with people dying this way, in service to the 2A. He got what he said he wanted.

I'm sick of the media trying to gaslight me into thinking that this dude getting blasted is a bad thing. IDGAF about political violence at this point. When Republicans commit acts of political violence, it's downplayed or even openly celebrated by the highest level of government (e.g. Trump making fun of Paul Pelosi). When a Democrat does it (and we still don't know what the shooter's political affiliation was) suddenly we need to "turn down the temperature" and Dem politicians start strongly condemning acts of political violence, saying it's not the way we do things here. But when you have one side strongly embracing fascism and the political left doing absolutely nothing to stop them, we've gone beyond our ability to handle this any other way. Part of the problem is Trump himself fanning the flames of divisiveness by preemptively blaming the attack on "radical leftists".

If we're going to get blamed either way, why not embrace the narrative that the right so desperately wants to sell their base?

"I can't stand the word 'empathy', actually. I think 'empathy' is a made-up, new-age term, and it does a lot of damage."

Need so much more of this.

Every right leaning person I know is acting like they're so concerned and heart broken then calling for extermination of leftist as if they weren't always hateful or callous when someone on the left was killed

  • Bad faith argument, stop taking American conservatives seriously, lol. Don't you understand they argue "to win" and build a nice narrative for their crimes, not because they believe in truth and the collective good? 😓

What happened to the empathetic left is that after years of it being taken advantage of we stopped caring about what the right thinks of us

    Gun policy 👌👍

Just be happy he's dead. Stop trying to fuck around with 2a and blowing momentum.

Empathy is a sin and we're tired of being sinners when it comes to the right.

Hey, why does anyone gaf about Paul Pelosi? I feel like there's way better examples to use

Because you can draw a direct line from the literal decades of conservatives throwing a TSUNAMI of violent rhetoric at Nacy Pelosi straight to the guy bashing her husband's head in with a hammer.

I'm trying, man. I'm looking deep in my soul but I really can't be fucked about a stock market mogul. obviously though this seems to just be me so I need to self examine. in the meantime perhaps this is a great opportunity for C-Dawg and the Pelosi's to put aside their differences and consider how to change their perspective grifts to result in less grievous injuries together.

I don't think it's about whether or not Paul Pelosi is a good person or not, just about pointing out the clear and deliberate inconsistency of the right when it comes to violence

The issue is believing that the right has ideals.

The only ideal the right knows is egotism. What benefits me (or what I think benefits me) is good, what benefits others is bad.

All the other "ideals" they might throw around to support their point is just a smoke screen with the purpose of trying to make it look like there's other justifications for their actions apart from "I'm an egotistical asshole who can't manage to view other people as human beings".

I agree completely. Principles, consistency, etc aren't important to them. I wonder if they are even conscious of that. When they use something like this shooting as overwhelming evidence of "leftist violence" or whatever, ignoring decades of basically exclusively right-wing political violence, I can't tell if they are just acting in bad faith or if they are actually incapable of seeing their total disconnect from the facts of the world. Both are scary but the former less so...I can wrap my head around that a bit more easily.

oh, okay good point. something I REALLY need to actually check about myself is reactively going "hold up, no duh" every time somebody points out hypocrisy in fascists. I tend to forget that it's useful to some and I don't need to be the guy acting like I'm smarter than everyone else.
