Well, I hope they track down the CEO and the family and bring them to justice
post
If this had happened in my neighborhood, or most of yours, none of us would now be hearing about it.
Yet if it's unconscionable for some, it's unconscionable for all.
As much as I regret that anyone goes through something like this, you cannot have a discussion about crime without also having a discussion about wealth inequality and poverty.
But they're only talking about the first part, so . . . I hate to say it, but zero fucks given. They can take care of themselves. Anyone living in Bridle Path, Toronto with Drake and Celine Dion is not going to have the same struggle as a working person who has inadequate or no health insurance but still has bills to pay and a family to feed in the aftermath of an attack like this.
I would not wish it on them, but these ultra-rich folks ARE the problem that created the circumstances -- the poverty and wealth inequality -- that led to their own attack. And as such, they will have police, government, and medical lined up around the block to help them through this.
They don't need me to care too.
I wonder if he was one of the good ones?
“Real estate mogul... "
Oh, whew!
I didn't know Toronto had a CEO
I didn't know Toronto had a CEO
His name is Doug Ford
No he's the CEO of Ontario.
Someone should tell him that
The Ford dynasty is hilarious to me. Heroin Ford got caught smoking on camera and that ends up with a family dynasty in politics
People shouldn't be attacked, but also ivory tower neighborhoods and the inequality they showcase shouldn't exist.
Maybe if they didn't flaunt their wealth like that, people wouldn't rob them.
It's giving "what was she wearing"
How do boots taste anyway?
Nah that commenter is right. The issue isn't people with any amount more flexing their wealth, the issue is how disproportionate wealth distribution is and the things some people do to keep others down in order to keep themselves increasingly higher above the peasantry.
You morons are arguing that it's okay to chain snatch in the hood, it's not, it's only excusable to steal from major corps and the obscenely wealthy.
The guy is a real estate CEO. He is obscenely wealthy.
Lmao yeah I know what the subject is about. It does not change the flaws in statements and lines of thought like the above comment. Using the logic of that comment would that snatching chains from your neighbors necks is okay because they flaunted their wealth. Just focus on the bad things the guy actually did.
I think it'd be great if we lived in a world where violence wasn't required, and we could, but we don't. Ideally an actual just justice system would handle things so individuals don't need to use violence, but it isn't just.
Also... The disproportionate police response when it's wealthy and/or connected people compared to poor everyman Joe and/or a minority is as frustrating as it is sad.
Unfortunately this was a robbery. So it’s not an eat the rich situation.
The irony of this statement
"No family should ever have to experience this."
Morton said his family was reeling from "the trauma of experiencing something so horrific in the one place where everyone should feel safest: their own home“
At least this pig has a home. No one is likely to come take it from him or price him out of it.
I’d love to say I don’t condone violence to the families of these people but honestly there’s a little of me says they are happy to ride on the coattails of the profit…so by extension are complicit.
As for the CEO himself what’s the chances he uses this event to reflect, I doubt it he will just buy more security.
Thats crazy. Ill keep them in my thoughts and prayers or some shit
I love that they mentioned this motherfucker's a CEO. (And an uber bastardly real estate CEO at that.) How I think about this crime is 100% going to be different if it's a super-rich wealthy bastard rather than a poor, single mother or a facsimile of that.
Reminds me of that time when an outspoken gun advocate took a bullet to the neck.
didn’t know Toronto had a CEO
It's a locked article for me but the description on the post says "real estate mogul."
I don't live in Canada, but I've heard the cost of buying or renting had been skyrocketing for a decade. I'm sure tensions are really high when people are having trouble putting food on the table.
On a technical level this is interesting. This was a robbery, not a social justice action. So money was the motive.
The three guys came up with a new business model and started their own corporation (not registered) in their garage. They then took actions to gather funds from investors. The investors turned out to be unwilling and escalated to lethal force in an to attempt to dissuade the corporate representatives. In the ensueing negotiations representatives on each side were shot or otherwise injured. The blame here clearly rests with the investors who escalted to lethal force rather than just fund the corporation.
Had this happened in the US, and caused a new business model that was very lucrative for some existing wealthy people, any crimes that occured in the process would be ignored. However, since the three individuals who formed the new corporation were not already wealthy, they would be caught and jailed.
The robbery was a way to hurt them where it hurts most. Money
Meh, it justice was their motive, they would have just killed the guy. They woke them up and demanded to know where the money was. Someone resisted and a gun fight broke out.
In a way you're right. But we don't know the exact situation. It's like Marios bro sending a message. Was it a reasonable approach?
Only a matter of time until things like that had to start happening.
Widening gap between rich and poor, no future prospects, no hope of change. On top of that we have Insta and co, showing people how nice life is if you have a bit of money, every day.
Sounds like there's finally a manhunt underway after Toronto developer violently put half the country on the streets
Attacking a CEO at home is something else than a Luigi. The attack on the family sets it apart. One thing is a product of injustice, the other is a byproduct of rage or even insanity, probably mixed with some social justice element. While I understand the rage, we can't go there where girls are badly hurt.
Fuck the rich. They have cops and they'll use them so they don't deserve concern.
It's just sad these instances are rare. Why isn't there more rage against the rich oppressors. If we're unable to tax their wealth for anything over 1bln, we could tax their head with a guillotine.
Sounds like this real estate mogul was attacking people too. If I am googling this right his company the "MAC collections group" took on written-off dead debt and aggressively collected on it by any tactic they could.
