At the risk of defending Jerry Seinfeld, I'm sure there was a legitimate place for him in the 90s monoculture. A milquetoast inoffensive white dude telling harmless observational jokes had the kind of mass appeal advertisers love.

I can't say I found him terribly funny, never "burst out laughing til you can't breathe" funny, but I did find him amusing in an absurd kind of way. I appreciated his show more when someone said it wasn't a show "about nothing", it was more a show of how a comedian (or one particular comedian) develops his bits. And in that perspective, I think the show is interesting enough, but still not particularly funny. It also highlighted to me just how absurd so much of society is. Like having a serious discussion about humor with a user named SatansMaggotyCumFart.

Thank you! he's the most boring and bland person on this planet and thinks he's God's greatest gift to comedy.

I'll stick up for the previous custodians of 30 Rock Lemmy memes. They wanted it to be a place of escapism, to get away from the tendency towards "Hard to Watch: based on the book Stone Cold Bummer by Manipulate" that we can sometimes trend towards on Lemmy/Mbin/Piefed. I don't know them beyond occasional Lemmy interactions, but I never got any sense that they were Epstein class apologists whatsoever.

That said, I'm more inclined to think that as long as we keep a balance not unlike the show, and keep our level of indignation close to that of our Johns, both Oliver and Stewart, then we can keep it a joyful space without the need to pretend we have a userbase other than what we have.
