Far-right senator and family land in US after crossing from Brazil into Argentina and then flying via Ecuador

A jet carrying the Brazilian far-right senator Flávio Bolsonaro has landed in Miami, Florida, where the losing candidate in Sunday’s presidential election runoff left the airport under police escort without speaking to the press.

The Gulfstream IV, registered as LV-JQW, left Guayaquil in Ecuador earlier in the day.

After losing Sunday’s election to the incumbent president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Bolsonaro disappeared for more than 24 hours, until Argentina’s migration authorities said he had entered the country by land on Tuesday night.

There, he boarded the Gulfstream IV. The aircraft had been parked at Puerto Iguazú airport since the early hours of the previous morning, when the first reports emerged in Argentinian media that he intended to flee on it.

Like father like son. Remember his imprisoned father going to Florida after losing in 2022?

Crime family asking for help from another crime family.

These republicans are another level of crooked.

if Trump were already president by then he would never have returned, so here's hoping the USA get an at least okay-ish leader soon

I thought we weren't letting criminal immigrants in? I mean his government is looking for him for some serious crimes. And we even made an extra official immune force to get rid of these dangerous people 🤔 How did this one have a hot off the press visa waiting for him in Florida? Someone must have stumbled with some paperwork somewhere. /s

On the bright side, losing the election has apparently done wonders for his looks 😄

I fled my nation (the US). I also have so much disdain for the country that has only caused me harm and trauma that I refuse to be labeled as such, I even switched to using the passport of my birth country (in part because the US won't let me renew)

    So yeah, agreed

I wonder what the split was between nazis ending up in Argentina vs the US even back during the end of the OG nazis, considering one ended up running NASA.

"International criminal feeling justice welcomed by US government." -- Not really surprising given the nature of the current administration.

When you have to flee the country when you lost the election is a really bad sign. When you flee to the US instead if a country like Russia, the standard for fleeing to when you're corrupt or a war criminal, that also says a lot about the US. But with a child raping pedophile as president, you can expect shit like this.

Florida has always sucked. The North Trump Ocean can't swallow it quickly enough. 20 years from now, it'll just be fake tits and fat MAGA fascists floating around their literally-underwater homes...all saying nobody expected this.

This guy is such a World Class Hypocrite that he both said "I'm not running away from Brasil" AND "I would be the victim of a witch hunt if I stayed in Brasil".

Another "You know he's lying by his mouth being open" type.

By the way, Brasil needs to drop the whole "Immunity for Parliamentarians" third world crap - this guy has been avoiding prosecution for several crimes for years because he was a member of the Brasilian version of Parliament (which he is not anymore, hence a Court ordering his passport confiscated and him running away to the US).

That Immunity trick keeps mafiosi far-right crime families from having to pay for their crimes as long as they go into politics and is probably what's seriously distorting the Brasilian political landscape (in a better country a guy like Lula would've retired by now - in fact, he tried and that ended with Bolsonaro senior elected as President, which is why he came back and was a Presidential candidate in the following elections)

Trump actually washed his hands off the situation saying he ain't getting involved.

    F'course.

That's Trump, he's pretty mercurial. So he might change his mind.

Isn't that the same place the Taint Bros. coincidentally landed in at the start of Dump's 2nd term? You know, after being arrested in Romania for human trafficking...

How do the people who voted for him view this? Do they feel some sort of betrayal/abandonment? Or was there a risk if he stayed?

Apparently his party admitted they lost the election. So he's just kind of going rogue on this one

I'm pretty sure the actual reason is he's going to be prosecuted for tax evasion. But of course he's framing that as a "political witch hunt by leaders of a coup"

He was literally relying on his parliamentary immunity for years to avoid being prosecuted for several crimes, not to mention that when his daddy was in power he did quite a lot to try and stop or disrupt those prosecutions (to the point of nominating a Supreme Court judge who immediatelly started interfering in those cases and the evidence around them).

Oh, and his brother too already fled Brasil to the US years ago to escape Brasilian Justice.

The Bolsonaros are a Crime Family and only the third world nature of some political structures in Brasil (most notably the way Parliamentary immunity is set up) lets people like these get to the level they get (that and the very large proportion of extremelly stupid people, similar to the US).

Why does the Guardian refuse to let me read any articles? Do all of you commenting have logged in Guardian accounts? I can never click a Guardian link and see anything but bullshit demanding that I log in and let their IT dogs sniff my asshole.

If you're in the EU it demands that you either log-in or allow them to track you with cookies.

The few times I actually read the article I just open it in a Private browser window, to in this specific case that stuff is currently being covered extensivelly on TV (I'm in Portugal) so no point in reading that article.

I have used TG for over a decade and I don't get any of that.

Of course I use uBlock Origin a lot to remove unwanted elements, and Behind the Overlay for nag popups

Using uBlock Origin from a normal internet address (so, not behind a VPN) and accessing the main page of The Guardian I immediatelly get a cookie pop-up with only the options "Accept all" and "Reject all and subscribe".

Maybe it depends on the country you're accessing it from? I'm in Portugal though I get the same via VPN with exit points elsewhere in the EU.
