I've been of the opinion for a while that it should be called "SI" for "Simulated Intelligence"
post
I think we should call it a large language model. It's pretty good at interpreting language, but not good at logic, understanding, mathematics, or intelligence.
Except insofar as those things are baked into language, which is nonzero but otherwise debatable.
Yup. We had ML before and each technique was called by name and ML as the overarching term for gaining insights from data.
This isn't anything new. LLM is a good term and Language Auto Regression would cover stuff like BERT, GPT, Jev, etc.
"Dont trust the LAR" rolls off the tounge quite well
Artificial and Virtual mean basically the same thing. It doesn't really change anything. Unless you're taking notes from Jamiroquai and the I is also changed to Insanity.
Aaaaand…. What do you think artificial means?
Personally, I think them word intelligence needs to be removed from it altogether. There’s nothing intelligent about it, or those that use it.
I vote for SM -- Sycophancy Machine.
Smartphones should be called touch mini computers.
"it mimics an intelligence but cannot think itself"
I think there's already a perfect term for that: artificial.
I always thought that "simulated intelligence" seemed more accurate, because it's not actual intelligence. LLMs rely on pattern recognition to simulate AI, but there's no actual reasoning or awareness, just a facade that looks like it.
