For me it went from “didn’t know it existed” to “not interested in playing it”.

I finally gave it another go. I tried it years ago for about twenty minutes and promptly uninstalled it when all the microtransactions got up in my face. Refreshing to see a company do the right thing, but I'm sad to say that I uninstalled it again. This isn't really Quake to me. Outlines showing where your opponents are, announcer notifying the quad has spawned, the shotgun being reduced from a death stick to a pea shooter, what's up with that? The movement feels less like you're running at breakneck speed and more like you're hovering around like a friendly little ghost. Everything just felt off.
If you want real Quake, just get Quake 3. Tons of people still play it. Or snag Xonotic.
I had a brief arena shooter phase but none of them really stuck, sad to see qc go down like this
And yet if they just added offline bots, I would uninstall most other shooters on my PC. Instead, I play QC:DE, Q3A and Xonotic lol
I haven't played this since the time I ended a friendship over the phone while fragging.
It had nothing to do with the game, but I'm pretty sure that was the last time I ever logged into it.
Fucker literally offered me 20 bucks to convince my sister (who he had never really met outside of maybe seeing her at school) to go on a date with him.
Anyway, I fucking instantly and wordlessly hung up. I asked him to repeat it to make sure I hadn't heard him wrong or to see if he was kidding, and he doubled down on it. Hung up and never talked to him again. I knew him from high school and given when Quake Live started, (and how early I tried it) it was several years after I would've graduated college (if I ever finished it).
I hadn't even talked to him for a while, it was kind of a "hey how you been" kinda call/conversation until he brought that up. Never heard from him again. Heard a small mention of him from a mutual friend that he felt bad about it but I don't care. I wouldn't have cared if he offed himself about it, I am still just as pissed today, and if I ever have to interact with him again I will let him know exactly who I am and what I remember about him.
But given that I barely played any Quake games, this story is what I think about when QL gets brought up.
I hope he's still depressed somewhere.
Shame, I can’t see this move expanding the player base. Its actually fun and also looks good. Instagib was my jam.
Other than quake 3, the quakes have all been subpar after the first one. I liked aspects of 2, but 4 was trash. Quake live is just a revamp of 3, and quake champions is okay looking and kinda fun but starting to charge for it is the opposite move I would've expected because it's just kind of okay and not many people will pay for it.
Maybe the thinking is people that have been playing for free for a while but didn't spend on mtx crap will pay a small fee for a version without any such bs, and to keep playing a game they like.
And on the business side: cash crab before they shut it down as planned.
QC started out being a game that you had to pay for. Then when that didn't generate enough sales they went free-to-play and added all the usual micro-transaction and battle-pass shit. Now they're back to where they started.
I like to play Quake against bots, and to me QC are very nicely done compared to basically any other (rare) modern bots one can play 100% alone with.
All QC needs now is an offline mode I and don't see myself playing any other shooter until the next Quake game releases. FUCKING PLEASE!!!!
