autonomy

I think you spelled "abuse" wrong.

Kids' bodily autonomy is often an afterthought or even laughed at by some on the right. Anyone who believes that smacking their family around is okay should be thrown in prison or worse. If I witnessed an adult abusing a kid in public anywhere, I'd likely go to jail (and don't anyone give me any bullshit about spanking or "only" using an open hand being different).

Parents who hit their kids are the worst, and deserve every bit of pain that comes from those kids eventually going no contact.

It is absolutely not a parent's right to cause harm to their kid. Anyone who says otherwise is truly a terrible person.

If this take seems extreme to anyone, I'd encourage you to seek therapy and re-evaluate your life.

I don't understand what you're suggesting. All people have autonomy, including parents. What are you proposing to replace it with?

Parental Autonomy is the legal term that was giving to parents in 1923 in the Meyer vs Massachusetts. This is what is still in place that allows parents to spank their children. This seems out dated to me because spanking has been proven to cause the same neurological problems as trauma caused by PTSD. I am proposing getting rid of parents right to spank a child. A child gets spanked for bad grades this causes PTSD. PTSD causes bad grades. Bad grades gets the kid spanked more is flawed way to fix a problem.

So you're just saying hitting kids should be illegal? Seems like common sense, since hitting adults is already illegal. Having an exception for parents does not make much sense to me.

Just when you say parental autonomy that sounds like a much broader concept that applies to a lot of other topics.

This post breaks rule 1 of Politics. All posts must be a link to an article. This isn't that nor is it politics related.

I posted links up now. I must have missed the rule about linking every post to an article. This is nothing but politics. It is about changing the law about parents having parental autonomy.

That's still not doing what the rule says. It's not about sourcing the contents of your post. The entire post should be a link to a specific politics related article where the title of the post is the title of the article.

Everything can be political when broken down, but this isn't the community for this type of post. I can't tell you what's a better place for this, but it's not here.

Ok where is a place for a more open discussion?

I can't tell you what's a better place for this, but it's not here.

I don't have the answer to that. You could post that question in NoStupidQuestions and probably get some answers.

Can you provide a link to nostupidquestions because this website is hard to navigate. Just because I feel like I am being treated unfairly here I am just going to add that if I did thing this way https://piefed.social/c/politics@lemmy.world/p/2446899/democrats-abandon-trans-voters-at-their-peril I could have gotten people to respond to my post about how people are upset about getting rid of parental autonomy? Without them avoiding my question because I didn't break the rules the correct way.

A subset of kids may make your hypothesis accurate, but bad grades is not directly correlated to spanking. Bad grades can be learning disabilities, dyslexia, discalcula, ADHD, sickness causing missed classes, poor teacher, and so on...even with 100 percent parental support.

From the scientific studies I am looked at their is a direct cause and effect relationship between spanking and bad grades. It is true that some kids can be spanked and not affected by it. I am pretty sure you will find high achievers with traumatic childhoods.

It would more likely but correlation, not cause. Because the parent that spanka a lot out of anger not ask a consequence is going to be shitty at parenting in general and not provide support for learning nor get support for a child that needs help. If you instantly halted spanking it doesn't fix the type of parent, you'd still have kids dealing with a shit parent.

I'm not condoning spanking. We had eras before any hands off thought, and the children had a wide range of achievement. I think its less impact then the overall environment and what the child is capable of. A parent that doesn't spank but tells their kid they are a pice of shit for being dumb, is just as impactful

If you see in my post I cover the psychological injuries. I just think we live in a ridiculous time where the science shows how much damage spanking does and we still allow it. I think we definitely need to cover psychological damage as well. I think when a child starts to do poorly in school the first thing that needs to happen is they see a school psyologist's that assess whether the child is suffering from some kind of PTSD related symptoms. Instead the first thing that is done is a report card is given to a parent. The evidence is clear that 90% of Americans will use unhealthy ways to try to get the child to do better in school. Parents are more likely to make the problem worse. Yet, we have a law that states a parent has the right to raise a house hold as they see fit. This doesn't make sense to me.

What does this have to do with politics?

Hmm, you've been here less than a day and this is your first post. Maybe you should read the platform for a week or so so you learn the ropes. Welcome to lemmy.

I did read the rules and didn't see any rules for waiting. I thought this was a great post. People so upset with a political idea they are willing to kill over it. I have now posted links. I think my post now follows the rules if not let me know. Can you please give your opinion on how strongly you or others feel about getting rid of parental autonomy?

    Sidebar, rule 1:

Post only links to articles. Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Alright problem fixed. Now can people please give their opinion about killing others to keep parental autonomy. That is really the only thing I wanted out of this post. How do you feel about getting rid of parental autonomy.

Can you post a link to the no stupid questions. Since this forum is extremely limiting. This website is not an easy place to navigate where things are.
