It was sticking and not refilling correctly possibly due to some buildup. A bit of vinegar to clear out any buildup and a finger full of grease and it's bobbing like a dream.

So, I've been there and done that and it stopped working within a couple weeks.

I learned that these parts are super cheap and basically made to be replaced rather than repaired. It's just some $20-ish plastic module, and the hardest part is taking out the old one, then it just screws in.

I replaced one of these two days ago. It was very easy, the hardest part was totally draining the cistern. It wasn't actually difficult it was just tedious. The guy at the hardware store (a plumber) recommended replacing the supply line as well but I didn't have the info with me to get the right size /shrug

Yeah, they make these pretty damn easy to just pop in new ones for issues like this... Mine got super stuck for some reason and I literally had to hacksaw it off, but it did eventually come out.

Hopefully that's a rare thing and I swear the last contractor might've used some sort of glue just to be a dick. Could be mineralization or something but it was SUPER stuck.

Yesterday I used plumbers grease on the flap to stop a tiny annoying drain leak. Is that the right way to fix it? Don't know, don’t care, that toilet was cheap and its a POS. (I tried acid first, it didn't help, but it did get rid of all the rust marks!)

Yeah, solving problems with grease! fist bump
