Residents of a small town outside Calgary are shocked to learn that Canada's most prominent white supremacist group held its second annual national meeting — where masked group members participated in military-style drills — at a volunteer-run community centre in early July.

"My first reaction is: that scares me," Lou Kuiack, a Millarville-area resident, told a CBC Calgary reporter. "I didn’t think that would come to our small little town, in our backyard."

Using visual clues in videos posted by the group, Second Sons Canada, CBC’s visual investigations team identified the location of the gathering roughly 70 kilometres southwest of Calgary, near the hamlet of Millarville, Alta.

Second Sons Canada was formed in 2024 and has chapters across the country.

The problem is that these groups prey on people who get scared because they see muslim protests where people are calling for the destruction of canada and the like and the gov't really does nothing. These groups pitch the idea that "the gov't is selling you out to these people and you're next whitey".

Right now there is a very strong feeling of division, where people perceive that the Muslims are out to get people or the Jews are out to get people or the left is out to get people etc etc and the government really allows this kind of thing to happen to an excessive amount. We saw a couple hundred churches burnt over the last few years in Canada and the government basically remains silent. They've done nothing substantial to fight anti-Semitism, and they've done little to rain in the true extremists amongst the generally peaceful Muslim Community.

I fear this gets worse before it gets better

Someone needs to throw one of those paint dye packs they use in banks into the middle of one of these rallies so that they can't hide their faces like cowards.

Someone shows up to work the next day with blue legs and you'll know how they feel.

Ngl living in Alberta it's basically an "assume until shown otherwise" situation unfortunately. Anywhere out of the city is usually rotten with white nationalism. The things I hear said out loud here even in the middle of an urban center is a bit rattling, I think a lot of people ignore that we might be a bit of a focal point

That said, we also exported some of our worst to Halifax and one of their leaders is currently recruiting troubled youth out there same as he did here so whoops watch out Nova Scotia sorry bout that

You assume they are ashamed of this? Where I live (rural Midwest) lots of people are unabashedly racist.

edit: picture didn't load, I see now they are wearing masks. It is the Internet they fear, not the opprobrium of their neighbors.
