Statement on Cuba (background is flag of Cuba)

Top - large, bold text: Marco Rubio's new report on Cuba
is nothing but instigation and warmongering

Below - normal text:
"Cuban Americans for Cuba" condemns the State
Department's release of "Cuba: The Capital of 21st Century
Communism" as nothing more than an act of instigation and
warmongering. As the US maintains over 6 decades of
economic warfare through the blockade on Cuba, it seeks to
justify its genocidal policy against the Cuban people with
further pretext from Marco Rubio's State Department.

This document is not serious policy analysis. It reads like a
document assembled to confirm a predetermined conclusion
rather than to inform one, thin on evidence and heavy on the
kind of generic, sweeping language that raises real questions
about how it was produced and who it was produced for.

We would take that less seriously if the stakes were not so
high. The blockade this report exists to justify has
measurable human costs: shortages of medicine and basic
goods, a healthcare system starved of supplies, a power grid
that collapses for lack of fuel and parts the U.S. embargo
keeps out of reach. These are the daily conditions of millions
of Cubans, including our own families.

As Cuban Americans, we reject the State Department's
attempts to escalate tensions between our two homelands.
Cuba poses no threat to the American people. We call for
engagement and an end to the blockade that has starved our
people for over 60 years.

As the US maintains over 6 decades of economic warfare [...] on Cuba

This deserves emphasis. The Cuban people have shown remarkable resilience in the face of economic sanctions first started by president John F Kennedy in fucking 1962. While Republicans are the face of white nationalist fascism, let's not forget how establishment Democrats, continuing to support the status quo, lead us to this point in history.

The same could be said about ICE, Guantanamo Bay, mass government surveillance, police militarization, the Pentagon budget, support for Israel, and the list goes on.

They're pointing out that this is like having a group called Far-Right Evangelical Christians for Abortion.

Sure, there is a very small percentage of that demographic who are pro-choice, but the vast majority are not.

The Cuban diaspora in America is overwhelmingly right-wing, religiously anti-communist, and incredibly toxic to American politics.

So good on this group for speaking out, but it's fair to acknowledge that, by and large, that is not how Cubans in America feel, and definitely not representative of how their outsized political power is generally expressed.
