I'm thinking about my mom.

She did not plan well for old age and so she's essentially lived off Social Security and help from my siblings and I. One of my brothers died two years ago. My dad died earlier this year. She became homeless a year ago, but is living with one of my sisters. She's driving for DoorDash every day in a car I lent her two and a half years ago.

But she's very close to finally getting a very nice apartment in a senior community subsidized by my tax dollars through the state, and I'm very excited for her to have her own clean, quiet place to just exist.

That sounds like a lot on your and your siblings' shoulders. Good for you, for doing what you can for her. I hope that you can maintain healthy boundaries, while doing what you deem is right to do for her.

    We try.

No one gives her cash, which is a huge boundary for all of us. If she needs an item, we buy a quality version of it. If she needs food or something else, we pool resources for a gift card.

Luckily for her, when I bought my condo three years ago I specifically picked a place near good public trans, and I became an e-scooter guy this year, so I don't need a car. She lives in a suburb and, unfortunately has to have a car to live, so I get through it.
