Tesla will stop making the Cybertruck next year, according to CEO Elon Musk, who said on X that the company will use the factory space to build more two-seater Cybercab robotaxis.

The decision to wind down the futuristic, steel-clad EV comes after just a few short years of underwhelming sales. When Musk handed over the first few Cybertrucks in late 2023, he predicted Tesla would sell around 250,000 per year. It was supposed to be such a cornerstone of Tesla’s future that, before construction began, the company talked about its Texas factory as the “Cybertruck factory.” But Tesla has instead sold just tens of thousands — total — over the last three years.

There goes one of the surest indicators of people you should avoid. Much as I hate the ugly things, they were an awesome way for people with bad politics to tell on themselves.

It's honestly such a shame. EV that looks straight out of the N64? Progressive, yet counter culture because of how ugly it is. If the build quality wasn't garbage and the CEO wasn't a nazi, I'd love to drive one.

it was also so expensive to make that one of the cost cutting measures was to stop sealing the holes in the frame/underside that had that wires ran through with butyl rubber, Which meant now driving through a tiny puddle risked causing electrical shorts and thus erasing any savings from the cost cutting with warranty repairs.

which just highlights musks excellence in engineering. /s
