In the kindest possible way: no we have not

We are still embroiled in all kinds of American infrastructure. Sure there are campaigns to encourage people to switch to non-american alternatives for stuff like IT and military inventory, but that doesn't stop people like Olaf Scholz saying that "Google suite is secure enough" when talking about German government cloud solutions

Olaf Scholz? Is he still relevant? I think you might be confusing the former German Chancellor with the current one, Friedrich Merz. Who actually said “that Google is also investing in Germany and Europe, and that we can ensure European sovereignty here even with an American provider.” - which is utterly ridiculous.

  • What's bothersome is that Germany is just one of many countries that's chock full of open source developers contributing to open source projects that know better. Those guys are SMEs on the topic and their opinions should be taken as such.

Germany happens to have KDE and The Document Foundation which is probably one of the reasons so much money goes into "investing" in Germany by big tech.

To put this in perspective: up until February of this year Iran still had Cisco infrastructure for their networks, and it took part in the attack against them. It wasn't until after this last war that they finally ripped out all of the American silicon.

Seems like this is one really difficult lesson to learn, or perhaps the students are just a bit dull.
