What's bothersome is that Germany is just one of many countries that's chock full of open source developers contributing to open source projects that know better. Those guys are SMEs on the topic and their opinions should be taken as such.

Germany happens to have KDE and The Document Foundation which is probably one of the reasons so much money goes into "investing" in Germany by big tech.
