He's too old and needs to pass the torch to someone with more staying power. He can stay on as an advisor or whatever.

Not just him. Even people like Bernie should have stepped down a long time ago. They aren't raising up their future replacements at all.

I am pretty sure Bernie and AOC literally went on a campaign together.

That's great. Bernie needed someone to step into his position years ago, though.

Everyone talked a big game about living RGB, but she's a good example of holding on too long. She died and a conservative Justice was appointed in her place. Meanwhile a conservative Justice stepped down on purpose to allow Trump to appoint younger, more right leaning judges.

If Bernie doesn't have a replacement lined up, it could severely backfire on us.

I don't think Bernie's the one to blame for there being so few good options serving in the Senate as solid, honest progressive leaders, or for them not aggressively stepping up.

Replacement for hid State? That one could be on him, don't know enough on that either wat

Bernie running around and campaigning with AOC is him setting up his replacement for the leader of the Progressive wing. Sure technically they are in different parts of Congress, but that distinction is meangingless to the average person. Much like how Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer are the leaders of the Centrist wing, though Chuck is a lot less helpful to his protégé. Schumer and Hakeem got a Star Wars Sith kind of relationship; I fully expect Jeffries to one day wax poetically about the irony of Darth Schumer the Wise.

    Fair.

Sure technically they are in different parts of Congress,

This is where my problem lies though. AOC is already elected. Bernie will leave his seat one day and then his state will need a replacement. If he hasn't helped build one up, there will be a vacuum and they could get a corpo in his place.

You are totally correct that there is a danger that Bernie's vacant seat gets occupied by some kinda corpo ghoul. But there is also a possibility that AOC, as the head of the new Progressive Wing, helps elect new Progressive candidates, possibly by ousting incumbent corpo ghouls. As seen in the recent House and Senate wins, it's totally possible, we just have to help make it happen.
