For a human being with as much mass as Jason, he probably wouldn’t even feel it. Microwave ovens can’t cook 250 pounds of meat in 25 minutes.

microwaves heat the mass though. While a skinny person would start feeling warmer, jason would already be boiling in his bloated muscles.

the things we comment on on lemmy!

They very much do not. They heat outside in. If you don’t believe me, put a thick slice of meat in the microwave for a few minutes then cut it open and see if it’s warm or cold on the inside.

it's not watchable even at 1.5 speed, I had to skip most of it. At 11' he explains how microwave ovens heat water molecules. Then at 20' he explains "specific absorption rate" using this page: https://mriquestions.com/what-is-sar.html
I will quote from the same study

    • SAR increases with tissue conductivity. Conductive tissues support larger RF-induced currents. Tissue conductivity varies by a factor of 10 across the body, being largest in high water content materials like blood and urine and lowest in tissues like bone, fat, and lung.
    • SAR tends to increase with object dimensions. In the ideal homogeneous-sphere model, average SAR increases approximately as the square of radius. Total absorbed power increases as the fifth power of radius. Real human anatomy, however, is heterogeneous and does not obey a simple universal size law.

so, for this strange experiment, let's imagine an oven big enough to cook 2 men and 1 of them being Jason M. imagine an even bigger oven now. For the radiowaves to cook evenly let's put them on some sort of a merry-go-round, with horses and mermaids. Let's give them metal mesh helmets, so that they can give feedback about what's happening to them. Let's not cook their brains for now.

Microwaves don't heat the surface. Like he explains in the video, they politely titilate water molecules. And because the waves are long, like he explains in that shitty video, those ovens need to turn whatever you put in them inorder to expose different parts of it.

    J. Momoa, I insist, will cook before the imaginary skinny person that has tiny muscles and no fat to boil.

At the size of maybe a chicken breast, yes, that would matter. But we’re talking about 250 pounds of flesh. That has so much heat capacity that any difference in heat absorption is going to have no effect at 1 KW. The body can absolutely disperse that much incoming heat easily. Especially when the body is alive and pumping blood.

Microwaves also aren’t going to be able to penetrate all the way to deeper flesh. They can reach about two inches deep. So I’m afraid Jason Momoa is still going to cook from the outside in, no matter how big his muscles are. And the skinny person, with much less mass to spread that heat, is going to cook faster.

why should we content ourselves with 1 KW? This is not an oven for breasts, this is for a futile discussion under a meme. Our oven had a merry-go-round in it. How's 1TW for cooking him correctly?

I don’t know of any microwaves that put out 1TW. I wouldn’t want to be in the same town as one, though, so I’m happy about that fact.

I have nothing to add to this conversation, as I have no idea which of you is right. But I do want to say, I'm enjoying the little thought experiment you two are exploring.

If this were Reddit, people would've been slinging insults at each other from the get-go. Instead, here we have a civil, fact-driven conversation about whether Jason Mamoa or a skinny guy would cook in a microwave quicker. And it's beautiful.
