The STTS-909 Rising Freedom and STTS-808 Immortal Justice CDE spec, are demonstration Mobile Suits exhibited at the Comprehensive Defense Exhibition, an defense exhibition jointly hosted by Earth and PLANT. The CDE is an international arms exhibition organized by Defense Industry Association (DIE) of both Earth and PLANT. An exhibitor is PLANT’s DEDO (Defense Equipment Development Organization).
DEDO is an arms stockpile oversight organization that was restructured after the war under a new leadership system, positioned above the various Design Bureaus of PLANT. These two CDE spec machines were built under the directive of DEDO, in a collaborative effort by Heinlein, Asimov, and Clarke Design Bureaus, as well as the new Gernsback, Komatsu and Smith Design Bureaus. Some points out Orb’s industry partners such as Morgenröte might be involved but no comment from either DEDO or Morgenröte.
In a turbulent international environment, allies can turn into enemies overnight. Therefore, supplying third countries with weapons that are excessively advanced would pose a threat to national security. To prevent weapons already sold from being used against the home country, they are have performance restrictions. Specific measures include “black-boxing” critical components, intentionally reducing performance, and implementing mechanisms to disable remote operation functions; however, the details remain unclear.
Their most distinctive feature—the demonstration-use paint scheme—appears at first glance to be an ordinary paint. Nut in reality, it employs phase-shift theory. This function serves as a camouflage mechanism designed to blend with the terrain and vegetation of the combat zone, achieving color changes by adjusting the reflectivity of visible light on the armor’s surface. The chest area and other heat exchange ducts comprising the thermal fluid circuit have also been redesigned, resulting in improved heat dissipation and reduced strength degradation of components caused by thermal stress.
The CDE spec emphasized the ability to adapt flexibly to the operational environment. However, localizing a Mobile Suit originally developed as a multi-role high performance unit by restricting its specifications deviated from the original design philosophy. Consequently, it is said that the development team once commented, “Rather than a wolf in sheep’s clothing, this is more like a sheep in a wolf’s pelt.
Furthermore, some have suggested that the unit’s combat record during the previous war may have been due to a specific pilot possessing an unknown ability known as SEED (Superior Evolutionary Element Destined-factor), but DEDO has not commented on this.
In addition, the unit’s name and model number displayed at the exhibition may be modified in accordance with the regulations of the recipient of the technology transfer.
