If we could have a worldwide apolitical setup that made better use of the night sky that we love then that would be best, but we can't. The ability to communicate in this way is a geopolitical necessity in any modern warfare. Space and AI are the new arms race

No one should be using starlink. It has been shown to be completely untrustworthy as a service both by Elon and how it has been used and abused by foreign governments.

The sooner Europe, China and all these other regions build their own, the better.

The mistake was to use starlink for us government purposes, including allowing it organizing totally uncontrolled communications of the white house, who knows what classified info was shared this time with russia or the other dictators.

The second mistake was to give starlink/spacex any subsidies at all, a company claiming to be that big can easily stand on its own legs.

Another oops was the dismantling of the respected NASA in favor of spaceX to let it decide on anything spacefaring.

In war, even a short lived advantage, is still an advantage.

They didn't become solely reliant on it, they still use fiber drones and other lower bandwidth rf alternatives.

They were smart in their application and have politicized the waiver starlink support very effectively.

Overall I believe they've done a fantastic job adapting to their available options. Semper Gumby.

In hindsight, it was a mistake for SpaceX to send (Ukraine) thousands of free Starlink dishes

It was a mistake for Ukraine to accept them too, if you ask me. Becoming dependent on a mercurial neo-Nazi like Musk is not a smart idea. But I guess needs must when the devil drives.

My point is if russia spends the entire winter pummelling Ukraine in acts of mass terrorism with ballistic missiles and flying jet bombs there is going to be consequences for that involve the fact that these weapons cannot stop a land army....

I have never heard Anders Puck Nielsen sound this frustrated on an issue.
But it is absolutely insane and disconnected with reality the position people like Trump and Mark Rutte are taking.

I am happy that our Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen saw this right from the beginning, and that my country helps Ukraine more than most. It's sad however how little countries like Spain and Italy and USA are helping, but also France, Germany and UK are not doing nearly as much as they could. It really is true that without USA Europe is not politically able to resolve its own conflicts.
We have done some in EU, but we have done far from enough, we need EU forces on Ukrainian ground, at a minimum to help with logistics and keep the power on, and to help with medical aid and rebuilding. We should also have enforced a no fly zone over Russia at least from Ukraine to Moscow.

Europe is idling through this as Ukrainians are dying, and USA has almost completely abandoned their allies and democracy.

I guess it is a possible psychological effect, but nobody here except the tankies think that it's good that USA doesn't support Ukraine.
I understand you are pissed seeing the suffering and your country being destroyed in a totally unprovoked illegal war.
But everybody here really is on your side. Maybe sometimes a bit too eager to see something positive when it isn't there, because we too really want Russia to lose and leave Ukraine.
