Oh!!

I'm not sure I like the updated special effects.
I do believe TNG borrowed that scenario
Spoilers for The Next Generation
Where No One Has Gone Before
I would say that TNG did a better job with that plot point. Imagine if a Medusan was involved there, too. And Wesley had to go “mad” to get the ship back home.
I’m starting to get tired of how often the Enterprise is a stone’s throw from the galactic barrier or outside of the galaxy altogether. I’m going to have to assume they went straight up or down.
For some reason I only have faint memories of this one.
Well... I do seem to recall Spock forgetting to put on his protective goggles, and briefly going mad as a result. (or was that another ep?) Oh, and also the terrifying fact that they went someplace so far beyond the Milky Way that the space scenery looked downright bizarre.
I do believe TNG borrowed that scenario for one of the eps in which "The Traveller" helps mentor Wesley. Yet again you have a deranged (or plain idiotic / narcissistic) engineer who botches things badly, and manages to transport the Enterprise to another bizarre-looking place.
Majel Barret levels of multiple characters. :)
It was pretty interesting seeing Diana Muldaur again. Was this the 2nd character on TOS? Not nearly Jeffrey Combs level of Star Trek multiple character actor, but definitely should be noted for how much Trek she's done.
Visual effects comparison of the original broadcast & the Remastered versions.
As a white guy it's hard for me to understand that emotionally. She made me feel it.
"Here comes my leader!"
It took me over a year to get through season 1 back in the day, giving up and starting again every so often. I finished the other seasons in a little over a month. If you really want to struggle through every episode, hold on to the knowledge that eventually you’ll reach some of the best 45 minutes ever put to film (and that you’ll get to watch DS9 after, which is IMO the superior show, but only truly shines in contrast to TNG).
Use this.

For seasons 1-2, watch the ones marked “Engage!” and “just for fun.” If what you see is up your alley, you’ll probably be able to enjoy the rest of the series without using the guide.
Enjoy Farpoint, but you'll want to quickly skip 70% of Season 1.
I find it better to go back to some of the dumb S1 episodes once you're already a fan because they will not help you become one.
TNG gave us the tv-trope "Growing the beard" for when a show turns from meh to great.
Welcome, as others have said the first season is a bit rough. Don't be afraid to skip something that just feels too ridiculous, the show starts getting good around when Riker grows a beard.
Welcome. As others said it's not perfect, takes some time to get its footing etc. But has absolute classics if you give it time.
Don't feel guilty for skipping EPs if you need to - I know whenciget around to a rewatch I will slip some (and i grew up glued to it)
just give it some time and don't give up, the first few episodes (or first two seasons, depending on who you ask 😂) are not the pinnacle of the series, but it is worth it.
Welcome.
The first season is a rough rejig of a lot of TOS scripts, but there's good moments here and there. Season 2 starts off poorly, but it begins catching up to its own time of production and stabilizes.
From there, it's a rewarding journey.
Representation is important. When certain people demand that characters in movies and shows must have the right color of skin (incidentally it's always white) they want the opposite of what MLK wanted when he asked Nichelle Nichols to stay in Star Trek.
Yah, and he did one for Voyager, too.
See how you like that one...
Séan Ferrick did this? It’s very good.
What sorts of changes?
Based on the cancellation, it's hard to imagine the budget particularly growing.
Season 2 brought some changes and a new director, but at the same time it was canceled after only six episodes. It probably would have continued improving as time went on.
I don't remember seeing this one, but I tend to think that episodes in which outside (or inner) forces were screwing with the Enterprise (both TOS and TGN) tended to be a fairly rich vein to mine from. Can't really remember an outright bad one, and there were definitely some goodies.
You know I just thought of this, but just as TOS got significant upgrades to its special effects, I wonder if something similar might be done with TAS, particularly since the animation tools are so much better now. Sort of like the below, but probably further upgraded.
I've linked this one before, but figured I might as well just post now:

I love Star Trek Continues, it's so good.
Uh oh, Lou Ferrigno turned green again...
